well iv been workin on a lil project, usin a d15b2 block and a y8 head. plans are to turbo once I get it all together and broke in. but usin stock rods and pistons(comp reasons), y8 mani ported and polished. my problem is I wanna go obd1 not obd2 and im getting all kinds of things tossed my way, like I need a b7 dizzy an I cant remember what timing belt to run it. but im all confused when it comes to mixing parts from other motors so if any have done a build like this a seen a write up that would help a lot. il be postin pics in a day or so of the progress.

Now, are you going with stock internals for compression reasons, or cost reasons? because you can get any aftermarket internals in stock compression ratios.

now, I know its not my build, and I'm only offering some small advice.

Personally, I would go with a d16z6 head, Y8 manifold, and a d15b2 bottom end, and a good set of arp headstuds.

kinda both but I have a good set of stock internals already so was just gonna change rings and bearings, and why would u say the z6 head over the y8?

From having both, the z6 head performs better, and swaps easier. Its very similar to the a6 head. The flow rates are comparable to the y8, and the main point of getting the y8, is just the bigger intake manifold.

You've also gotta think, there are 2 700+hp z6 based builds, and no y8 based builds.

check wrecking yards, you'll have a good chance of finding one there. I've got an extra p28 laying around, that I'd let go for mega cheap + shipping.

throw me an offer. I don't see myself needing it for a while, or ever for that matter. Whenever I end up building a car, its going to be an aem ecu.

We can base price off of your preferred shipping method.

unless you't prefer a flat rate box?

ok well checked out cr ratio's d15z6 hails 10.22cr while d15y8 hails 10.65cr. not much of a diff, but the z6 gives more ptv clearance than the y8, so question is should I mill the head or just leave it as is to stray away from more tuning issues? also since z6 is obd1 all im gonna need is the dizzy, injectors and ecu right? well jumper harness too.

I would leave it alone. Honda designed the head for optimal performance. More ptv clearance means you can put a more aggressive cam in there.  Wink

yeah, your parts list is right. If you're converting to obd1 mpfi vtec, you can use all of the obd1 parts, z6 distributor, p28, and obd1 injectors. they'll fit in the y8 intake manifold no problem.

have you found a good write up to wire your car over to obd1 yet?

Don't forget a timing belt, water pump, head bolts, headgasket, and intake manifold gasket.

its always a good idea to go with head studs. my boosted z6 had arp's, a thicker cometic headgasket, and ran on 8lbs of boost.
