WD40 Engine bay detail - (info + pics)

Some of you have seen my engine bay detail I posted on hondatech.
I thought I'd post this up here as well.

I used WD-40 and a paintbrush and 4 microfiber towels.
Works amazing on 20 year old buildup of dirt and rustproofing. No joke. =)
Car had been sitting for 10+ years.
I basically spent 4 afternoons/evenings total on it.

STEP BY STEP

1. Go to the automotive store, buy 2 cans of WD-40 , 4 microfiber towels, paintbrush.
2. Open Hood.
3. remove battery, air filter box and arm, fuse box cover, wiper motor, map sensors assembly, coolant overflow tank, move away side wires and tubes on shock towers.
4. Start attacking the dirtiest parts with WD-40.
5. Spray and brush/agitate the grime/dirt
6. Wipe off dirt with towel.
7. Once all the bay is clean, you can buff and polish the paint around the bay and dress the rubber hoses with rubber and vynil dressing.

Keep doing this until all dirt is removed. It takes a while, but well worth it.
WD-40 wont remove the paint.

Note: As you will notice, some parts were replaced/restored as well.

I used your method on my LX before I threw the ZC in. Works like magic! Also did it to the WRX when I brought it home.

Thanks for sharing here... And on a side note, I used some Purple Power degreaser to cut some of the grime. Not a good idea! Thank god it was an inconspicuous spot. That shit took the paint right off! The wd-40 will do the job. Just takes some elbow grease

That looks amazing! I'm gonna do that as soon as I finish pulling my engine out.

Hi, took me about 20 hours total.

I also had to wait to install/replace new parts in between.

cheers

Robb- could you elaborate as to which parts you replaced?
This is immaculate! Definitely something to hold on to. I too would like to get my bay this clean very soon.

Not many parts were replaced... a few brackets, plug wires, couple nuts and bolts, radiator and battery were changed.

If there's a buildup of dried up dirt or rustproofing, then I would do this WD-40 methid, otherwise, a soaking in all purpose cleaner spray and brushing, then hosing down with water will do.

Incredible work!!! The display you present for us is inspiring and very professional. It looks like you put lots of time into that car. Anyhow, during the initial start up of the engine, battery power must execute to begin the car motor and is regularly on the execute for the ignition system to crank.

The engine really looks brand new. I canít believe that is the same car. It is incredible that all that can be done with just two bottles of WD40.
