Question
stormdrop

the 2004 325i of my mothers, that i have to maintain

so far to this car i have done a brake job, changed a rear brake wear sensor, serpentine belt (wished i pictures of that, it was a pain),plugs, and new tail light circut boards since e46's have wire melting issues. i have parts waiting for installation. Next round consists of new headlight housings, valve cover gasket, new intake boots, and a front brake wear sensor. I took some pictures of the brake job. Man germans build things strangely.

front hub with now brakes

massive brakes compared to the ef

shot of the rear set up

this is the e-brake shoes, on a drum made to the inside of the rotor. weirdness, only other vehicle i seen like this way my jeep grand cherokee (zj body style)

and wtf is this thing, it comes off the muffler and attaches to nothing. cant read it in the pic, but 32Hz is molded into it.
stormdrop

another shot of the bimmer. im really considering painting the ef this color. i really like it.

the brokus (the gf's car)

me and this car hate each other. I bought this car for 800 bux. It ran well except for at idle, had a dead miss, going down the road it ran fine, lacked in power but fine, has the coldest a/c i have been in by far. had a CEL cyl 2 misfire.
i started with usual, new plugs and wires, miss still there, tested a new coil pack, miss still there, changed fuel injector on cyl 2. still same thing. then ran a compression test. cyl 2 had a whopping 50psi. was at a friends house and he opened the oil fill cap when it was running, LOTS of blow by. Piss, the means valve issues.

valve seat had cracked and edge of valve just burnt away

the headless 2.0 spi enginebay

mmmm, fresh clean head

the stupid split port intake crap, the full circles have butterflies in the intake.

sohc of fury

this actually fits between the head and intake, the coolant passage on the head stops in the center of this contraption (the rusty area in the center), and goes no where, and thats where it started leaking

this car has had the head changed, then a few months after the head was installed the intake gasket started leaking from the one and only coolant port, so intake gasket was changed, 3 belts, a belt tensioner and idler pulley, 2 timing belt tensioners, a shifter cable brake (its a auto, and when it broke it broke going into park), front and rear brakes, new headlight housings(original ones wouldnt polish back clear), and rad fan assembly due to kayla jumping a hill(on accident so she claims) and the core support hitting the ground smashing the plastic shroud/fan assembly ford junk into pieces.

this is my old roomates project. this is what it looked like when he picked it up.
but this is what is in it now

this is what is lurking under the hood of my friend brads 90 crx

my current roomate has a 06 civic si, over the 2 years he has owned it, it has got skunk2 springs, an eibach rear sway bar, solid shifter bushings, and a aem cold air intake. it recently hit 90k and we changed the plugs. Honda has gotten stupid with engine bay design. You have to take the freaking cowl off just to change plugs. FTW

after you fight with the stupid plastic cowl, this metal tray thing has to be removed

stupid plastic cowl
[/url]

with everthing removed, now change plugs, hour and a half later

all the junk removed, cowl, metal tray under cowl, plug cover, coil packs

now the nanner boat (my jeep), has came a long way in 7 years of ownership. it was stock when i got it. since then it has got a 4"lift new wheels, front locker, new engine, new trans, new top, sidebars, and custom built front bumper(thank you welding class). Parts still waiting for install.'96 bellhousing with external slave cylinder, 8.8 explorer rear axle with disk brakes, SYE (slip yoke eliminator) for transfer case, and transfer case rebuild parts. A xj(cherokee) front drive shaft to be cut down and modified for my sye change and axle change over for a telescoping rear driveshaft.

random pic of jeep i prefer my ladies topless. lol

axle brackets, shock mount tabs, u-bolt plates, and u-joint yoke for 8.8.

rugged ridge SYE kit. glad this came with directions, it does not look fun to install
stormdrop

this weekend, i should be doing round 2 of maintenance to the 325i. ill take some pics of the process. Hope you guys like these posts of random crap.  Very Happy
stormdrop

only got the emblem and headlight housings changed, started raining on me. so engine parts will just have to wait.

i had sanded and polished these headlights last summer twice. they just wouldnt stay clear. before pictures

lots better

todays rear brake job on a 1978 el camino aided by

here is a shot of said el camino, cause i know you guys like seeing my random sh*t

EF4lyf3

gotta love the drum brakes lol. I did my wifes drums and it took me 3 hours on one side then 20 minutes on the other hahaha. First time for everything.
stormdrop

thats the way it always works with something new.
stormdrop

another round of e46 325i work today

this time it was to replace some broke vacuum lines, new intake tube elbows, and a leaky valve cover gasket. Come to find out it wasnt as bad as i had expected.

first you have to remove the cabin air filter housing to get clearance to anything. (piece across the center)

now i can access the valve cover

valve cover-cover removed, and fuel rail cover, stupid germans  covering up there horrible looking wires

air box is removed to gain access to intake boots

intake boots removed. tb is located on the bottom of intake manifold. had to remove a vacuum line t off of top intake boot, discovered both lines to it were rotted, replaced those, had to remove a plastic shield around brake booster to gain access to lower boot, and had to remove the disa valve(come to find out later is faulty also) disa valve hole is filled with blue towel in pic

big pile of parts removed, hope i can remember how they all go back on

dry rotted intake boots, this would explain the lean codes it was throwing, rough cold start, and a annoying whistle at part throttle

upper boot

lower boot

valve cover removed, this thing has some of the pointiest cam lobes i have ever seen. should have snapped a close up pic of them.
(the long black thing on left side of picture went across the top of the intake cam, it just sits there, no clips or bolts, blew my mind, guess the valve cover holds it in place when installed.)

also plasti-coated/painted my friends wheels today on his 1997 OBS

new-mex-4dr

the crx bay is sick
stormdrop

traded the gf's focus(da brokus), for another H badge.

stormdrop

got some work done this weekend. friday i worked on the new civic, replacing the muffler had no guts inside of it with a factory replacement walker muffler.

this was the one i pulled off

also the wiper arms had faded to the bare metal color, so i used some of my left over trim paint and painted them up

before

after

had to see what my wheels of the ed would look like on here. dang good i think

here is some random pics, i know how you guys like random pics

tenkaracole

Just like my signature says the ladies love to drive stick! Cool
stormdrop

my old roomate (guy that owns the red crx turbo in pics above) has a 1999 ex 5spd trans, a chipped p28 and a obd1 to obd2a jumper harness to help me swap the ek over. still have to find a pedal assembly, flywheel, trans brackets/mounts, shifter assembly, and dust boot. so ill be on the slow lookout for these items. anyone feel free to donate parts as you wish.  Very Happy
4dred6

cool. and if i had some parts i would  Sad
EF4lyf3

Same here man^
stormdrop

since it has got warmer out, lots more of my fellow co-workers drive there jeeps to work. here is a pic of mine and 2 others

so last week, the driver window regulator broke on the driver window of the ek.  taking it to a body shop (friend owned) to get it fixed. i dont do windows, had bad luck with them.  Evil or Very Mad

Did change the front brakes tonight, fresh pads and rotors

so my fellow honda enthusiasts that read this, comment on this:
these rotor screws here

when you change rotors, leave them off, or put them back on.
stormdrop

i leave them off, i have changed several rotors on several hondas in my day, never had a problem with leaving them off.
4dred6

yea me too, never put then back on
stormdrop

got bored so i decided to wash the ek while the gf is sleeping.

the auto dealer sticker will come off

not really a fan of the rear chrome window tint, but that is how it was when i go it. Going to get side are rear glass tinted black.
stormdrop

got the driver window regulator replaced on the ek, next it is buff time.  Very Happy
4dred6

good stuff
stormdrop

changed the oil in the jeep yesterday, topped off the trans and transfer case fluids also.

Its so nice not having to jack it up to change the oil, i can slide under it just fine, even on a creeper.  Very Happy

stormdrop

got something from the ups man today. HONDA PARTS Very Happy

just too bad they are for the coupe

replacement weather stripping from where it has torn in-half at the mirror corner and wads up everytime you roll the window up.
stormdrop

got the weather stripping replaced. here is some pictures of the process

stupid power windows, wished this was a factory manual window car

right under the triangle shaped area is where the original weather stripping broke.

old vs new
4dred6

nice  Smile
stormdrop

next will be a type r grill and lip, rear trunk badge removal, and possibly yellow fogs with a factory placed switch. fogs will require me to cut the bumper which i dont like doing.  Sad
stormdrop

time to rant a min.
ok wtf is that trim piece's(circled in yellow if you didnt know:wink:)  official name so i can order new ones. i tried looking on majestic honda and cant find the exact part. i tried searching "door trim", "window trim", "door window wiper", and just trim. id just paint them but the rubber/felt like stuff is chipped off real bad and just bothers me. lol
stormdrop

changed oil, plugs and wires last night on the coupe. I do thank whom ever owned this thing before me, actually took care of this car. they used dielectric grease and anti-seize on the plugs.  Very Happy

stormdrop

those strips are expensive, but it needs them. Looks like i need to work a couple hours over next week to fund this project Smile
89CivicSi

the ef ones i was lookin at arent cheap either, only reason i knew where to look lol i have to replace the back doors and the roof trim.
stormdrop

ill be replacing all the weather stripping and such on my sedan also, but i plan on doing all that exciting mess when it comes paint time.
stormdrop

well, it has been some bad issues going on with my new ride. The black 98 coupe in this thread was a car purchased for my girl friend to drive  till she could get enough money up to buy her a car. Well stupid female that she is let a 17 year old kid with no drivers license get behind the wheel to literately drive a 1/8 mile up the road to get a drink from a drink machine. Kid pulled out in-front of a car and got t-boned.

so to make this awesome, i only have liability insurance, and since i was not driving the car, it is not covered for being replaced. Now the accident is under investigation by my insurance company to see if they are going to sue me for the damages to the other car.

taking all of this into concideration, i took it upon my self to  fix the car and make a new door fit.

so i have a friend whos family owns a body shop. Gave him my 400 ex as collateral and is paying him off slowly with cash and help when they need it to get my debt to them re-payed.
stormdrop

ill post the pictures of the insane weekend i had fixing this car to be drivable again. Now note, all of this work was done after i got off work on a friday morning at 7:30am(i work midnights from 11:30-7:30) went to the shop picked ryan up(friend at body shop), to get the car and drive it back. All of this work was done from when i got off and painted at 2pm on sunday. It was a busy weekend.

I went to the local salvage yard, they had a 98 civic dx coupe. so now im rocking 1 power window and 1 non-power.  Sad  but hey, its better than what i had.

this video was taken right before we pulled it in the shop.
quarter is pushed out 2" by the tail-light, buckled at the base of rear window, B pillar pushed in 3" at roof, pushed in 5" and bottom of B pillar, rocker panel almost pushed all the way against the seat.
this thing should have been taken to the salvage yard, but damn i only had owned it a month. Im fixing it:evil:

Good thing is door handle was not damaged, handle insert with the window switch undamaged, and power mirror not damaged. none of the door wiring was messed up either, hell the speaker still worked. YAY plus

had to use the frame puller to pull the door off the car

bent door is um... Bent

bent door + mini sledge = good frustration relief  Very Happy

things are a tad bent if you didnt notice

this was after the pillar was pulled, we hung the door and it looked to be about an inch too long

after noticing the front was bent at the door hinges, we hooked to them and pulled the forward a bit, and door fits as good as it can.

i had been up for 31 hours to get to this point, i was so excited.

let the filling begin

at 9ish saturday night this bitch was in primer

at 4 am on sunday after primer done its thing, time for paint

finished

After all this mess, this car will NOT be loaned back to the gf, i dont think she is going to be around much longer now. Ill drive this thing to save money on fuel. my DD is a 14mpg jeep wrangler, this will do just fine.  Cool

the body work could have been done alot nicer if i had more time to dedicate too it. you can tell the side is not straight, but i dont care i did all of this myself (with ryans help also) in a little less than 72 hours.

oh i did pull all the wiring out of the power door and fed it in the manual window door. i put my factory tweeter speaker things in, the power mirror. the accident trashed the power latch, so i need one of those and get a power regulator, and rig the switch at the window crank hole. all of this will be done after i pay off the shop.

thanks man, this realy puts a damper on getting parts for the sedan though. Sad, it does however save me money on fuel, this things gets 30mpg vs my jeep getting only 14.

no way in hell is she allowed to borrow anything of mine anymore. Things have been a bit rocky with her anyway the last few weeks, this was icing on the cake.
tenkaracole

Id pull over somewhere kick her out tha car and say bitch get to walkin'!!!! Very Happy  That's some BULLSHIT!! Evil or Very Mad I'd get rid of her.....but that's me! Rolling Eyes
4dred6

that really sucks man.
stormdrop

im strong willed so have to, keep on keeping on. Since i now have this to drive as a DD. I will put my ford 8.8, sye, and external slave bellhousing swap on the jeep.(been collecting parts for 2 years) Possibly pick up a richmond mini-spool and slap it in the 8.8. I love doing suspension work on jeeps.
Grifty

Nice work!

Shame about the EK Sad
stormdrop

thanks, more will be done to the ek once the sedan is running.
stormdrop

so my uncle got bored waiting on me to show up at the shop, and i arrive with him having done this.

it was already black to begin with, so a free can of blaze blue had to help. lol
