The Quest still continue! Boosted EFsedan

Migrating over from honda-tech as "MY_EFsedan"

i figured i'd join again here since all i look for are EFsedan on h-t. here is where it's at so i will be updating my car here for all the enthusiast efs owners.

Theres at least 1000 pictures that im not posting BUT if you want to go through every detail my car has been through since Jan. '07, feel free to lurk through my 126 pages of blood and tears Razz

With that said, PREPARE YOURSELF AS THIS IS GOING TO BE TENSE! I will just make a time line skipping all the minor mods and go from Jan ‘07- March ‘11.

I started with a DX model sedan with a B20b motor w/ b16 trans. Everything else was stock.



1st track day. B20 w/ b16 trans, 12lb fly with act clutch. AEM intake. Went 14.6 best time.


Started the body work which I was NOT good at.



Bbs in 13’s


Attempted to rattle can the car and sold the wheels


Stared the wire tuck



Did a B20vtec and bought Rota Track R’s. Car went 13.6 best time.



Sold the Rs and bought Xxr 002 15x8 +0 which was a NO GO. Had it for about 12 hours before it was sold.


Bought GT3’s then it just wasn’t me at all. Sold that as well.


Bought “Rota Slipstream” which turned out to be Spoon SW388s..dude said it was slips and I bought it cause it was only $260..why not. Cleaned it to find out its spoons.


Car was “low” and I hit a unexpected train track. Lost my oil for 4 miles and soon after spun a rod bearing. B20vtec came out. LS block replacement went in the next day.

Motor in. LSVTEC


Also sold the spoons for a new set of 16 rims, let me keep my tires + $300. Not bad



Stared body work again and read up on the “$50 paintjob” for quite some times and decided to do this. I was in college and money wasn’t easy to get.






3rd time at the track. LSVTEC went 14.1 best time just it is in the picture.


Sold the 16 ZR wheels and bought Drag DR20 15x7 +10 w/ 195/50/15s.



Did body work again for this skunk theme I’ve been wanting to try.




That didn’t last too long before I went back to smoke gray


Then a TWIST. I bought a turbo kit.


The Purple Bay came to play!


This was back in 09. The idea came to mind. A JDM EF8 front end. I originally bought an EF9 front but sold it and went EF8 instead of the EF2.


So I bought one and Attempted by cutting and welding the sedan fenders.


It was a disaster. The fenders didn’t line up. No where to mount the bumper, hood didn’t line up. Fender to bumper was too short (sedan had the filler, crx didn’t) so I put that idea away for about a year.


Ditched the 1st turbo kit I bought and got another kit from SpoolinPerformance.


Soon after it was finally boosted after a year of collecting parts. USDM front end back on.


Tuned @ 13 psi made 296/184.


Bought some XXR 521 16x8 +20

Body work Started for the 3rd time.





Finished bay. Repainted a lot of areas purple,. Purple VC and misc


Smaller tires



3 days after Xmas,  it ended for me. Tuned @ 13psi with boost leaking without a valve seat. When I replaced the valve seat. It held perfect @ 15psi without a retune. And I raced it and such then rod knock/threw a rod through my block going to work @ 65mph.



ITS NOW 2011! The motor is being taking out . Im cleaning up the bay. The car has been down for almost 4 months now, but parts are stacking up. What I have now are;

81.5mm Cp pistons. 9:0:1 cr
Eagle H-beam rods
Acl race bearings
B16 head
Supertech valve train
Gsr cams
60-1 garrett turbo
Purple Tial Q BOV 50mm
Purple  Tial 44mm MVR Wastegate
Ordering a top mount manifold and victor x manifold






While the block is getting worked on and still waiting on a lot of other parts. I decided Hey lets do the JDM front end again since I left my job and now have time to do so. This time around, I bought crx fenders so everything would line up better.






THIS IS ALL UP TO DATE! I really miss driving this car. And im hoping to drive it very soon!. 450+ HP !

On the side note. This car was purchased as my daily commuter. Threw wheels, suspension, system, and motor in it. after a few months it kept giving me problems. So I put the car back to stock and took my motor out. Its FS now as a shell.

man i have much to say and don't even know where to start. I didn't even know you were on here and by the looks of it you were not until today. I'll be honest this build about 3-4 years ago was my inspiration and it wasn't even close to what it is now. Im loving the EF8 front end on the sedan I have been curious for sometime about if someone was going to do this or not. Im not all about the roll on paint jobs but after paying for my car to be professionally painted I see the appeal. Im loving the boost. there is so much more Id like to say but in the end...

I followed the progession of this car on h-t. Glad you made the jump back over here. Love what you have done, and where it is going. I'm planning a rustoleum carnival red paint job in the next month. Hope I get results similar to yours!

MattyJ: ive been looking here since i heard about it over @ HT. the EF8 front end was something i thought would make me stand out. the EF9 front was done a few times and the EF2 is common now since everyone wants it and gets it. the roll on paint was something to give my car a better look over the primer. IF i had money at that time, i would went to a paint shop. i had continue with the roll on because thats what got me a bit known out here. stick around my thread bro, the boost is about to be boosted up!

88civicracer: yes siR it has. i almost sold this car twice but in my heart i couldnt. there has been countless days and nights on this car and it still isnt stopping! my car is coming out big once its all said and done.

proper: thanks! what technique are you going to use? i did roll on once on this car and the last 10+ cars i did was shoot it through a gun. take your time and it can come out better than you expected. (look up to my car the last time i painted it.

I have a deVilbiss gun that I will using to spray the car. What ratio did you use for the mineral spirits to paint? And did you use mineral spirits or thinner? I was told to buy enamel hardener also to help speed up the cure time. Any thoughts?

I remember seeing this car at sac raceway. I took a picture of it(take a picture of every sedan I see for some reason!) I want to boost on my ls. I have almost everything to, but with the price of gas, and it being my dd it might not happen as soon as I would like....
Did you have the front end for sale on craigslist awhile back? I can't wait to see what comes next!

i did a 90/10 mix with mineral spirits. but i think you are better off with paint thinner as mineral spirits, i use to remove paint lol..it caused alot of runs on a few of the cars i painted. the mix, sometimes i mix sometimes i dont..i shoot when the paint comes out the top and shoot when the pattern is right. i do use liquid hardener on my car and yes it did help cure faster a bit before the next coat.

Sancho: although i had a daily car, i still used my boosted ef as the daily haha! its fun to drive while it lasted. prices on gas is going up as well but im not complaining because i use to pay 5bucks (remember a long while back) my cousins uncle is running a fully built GSR turbo making 500~hp and its doing 300+ to a tank daily'd. just get all the right parts and TUNE, actually a FULL TUNE and the car will get great gas miles. (thats my goal with this sedan)

and no the front end was never on CL after i purchased it 09

For sure man. Who does your tuning? All of my friends in Yuba City/Marysville go to Perris so I figured I'd be going there when the time comes. Ideally I'd get something else to daily with a single cam, but I can't sell my em1.

Duuuuddeee!!! You're probably the main reason I bought my EF sedan! Probably about 2 years ago when I saw what you where doing to your sedan body wise, I was like fuck that shit is fuckin gonna come out clean but I was never able to buy a car, but once I got a job and saved up my money I just came up on my white EF sedan!!!!!

P.S not trying to be on your nuts or anything but I lurked your thread for a long ass time! lol

sancho: i went to DNR but they stole my chip as well as my cousins and ALOT  of others. but Redzone is going to do my next tune and they are the one that tuned my cousins uncle.

towlie: Thanks Bro! im glad my car had convinced you to get a sedan. i mean you cant go wrong with these car, it shits on everything else! (cause its uncommon you know) im hoping to keep my keep for a long time and alot of updates coming soon!

dolie: haha! thanks!. that rustoleum is what got me quite know. doing what others hate and making it look decent/nice! next step is to clear the paint and sand/buff. ive done on a different panel before and the results are 10x better!!

I've always preferred top mounts also. Its what comes factory on the Subies (only turbos I've had) and it adds to the killer sleeper effect when you don't have a bigass FMIC hangin out in plain view.

90EFsedan: i know that it lags in spool time. but for the price and looks i dont care. its a show/race car. looks pretty and goes fast. i mean my 2step is @ 6k anyways, enough time for spool.

I've never actually had any first hand experience with the different spool times on a TMIC to FMIC.. But yeah in your situation even with a .70AR it'll spool fine with a studder box. Do you have yours tuned to engage vtec off the line also?

90 ef. what do you mean tmic to fmic? i meant top mount turbo manifold not top mount intercooler. longer runners, longer spool time. short runners, fast spool.

Steve: its being custom made where the very top of the turbo doesnt sit higher than the VC, then it should be clear. plus the EF8 hood gives me a bit more space because of the hump on it.

then took the motor out. tmorrow imma start taking apart the block/trans and junk the block. clean the bay and start repainting! i hope.

so this one day it started like this.

i love my car besides the fact that it was hit from the front passenger side. its the only damage that bugs me the most about my car.



with no job and money, i "attempted" with a sludge hammer to bang the frame/rad as straight as i could.




got a bit frustrated that it wasnt going anywhere. my fender still didnt line up. the bumper didnt line up, the hood didnt line up with the fender and my headlight.

got a bit carried away with my friends drill bit and went away with it letting out some anger.



then here..i figured why not. i want a nice looking engine bay when my motor is ready to go in.

thanks everyone. there isnt really anymore pictures. i havent touched the sedan because im in the process of swapping the wagon with my b20vtec. i have some money to play with so some new parts will fly in for the sedan.

the wheels are for the sedan but i will be rocking it on the wagon until she awakes again in the near future.

i repaired that broken piece. for the price, i didnt complaint about it at all. it was fixable so i went ahead and repaired it.



here i super glued the piece back in its spot.



then i used a soldering pen to melt/make a grove on the line that it mated at.



i filled it in with plastic epoxy.



Bam! sturdy repaired part!

i took the residue off today with a wire wheel and mothers plastic polish. accidentally cracked a bit more where it was already cracked but its ok.

not a big update but i got a 68mm TB and a fuel rail. i stacked my engine together to keep me motivated as i walk by it cause its so close to being parted out sad

here it goes.

ive had issues at my last job that had me quit. after quitting edd denied me 2 times not because my reason wasnt good enough, it was because i "sent the form in a day late." i then decided that i will call this a vacation for the time being before getting another job. plus it was also hard enough to get another job.

i have this infection on my ear that causes people to stare at me all the time and i grew a habit of not looking at anyone in the eye anymore because of it. i get irritated when people stare at my ear.

at this point the car is on suspended registration because i dont have insurance for it for over 8 months and it just got put into non-op. weather its on non-op or still in registration i dont have the funds to keep moving forward on it. im trying to find ways to make money but its not going so well. i have alot of good things for sale but there isnt any bites on them.

this is my beloved car but theres way too much money needed to make this car start and run.

for the main part it needs:
-radiator support + labor to get it in. $200+
-jdm front goes on + labor for fender work otherwise oem front goes on $80/hour

misc:
-motor needs to be assembled with studs and head gasket ~$200
-trans need new case as it is cracked, 3rd is grinding ~$250-300
-injectors ~$320
-down pipe and dump tube $375
-Exhaust $250
-Charge pipes ~$250
-Obd1 ecu/jumper/dizzy + jumper ~$400
-traction bar ~$275

if the sedan gets parted out, the wagon has most of things that the sedan had at one point. it has all the obd1 conversion and a re-writeable chip. has the sedan exhaust. its running obviously and like most people said, sedans are dime a dozen out there for sale now and the wagon are hard to come by now a days.  (this is still a big decision as most people want the sedan to run and others want the wagon to get the motor. its already a running car)

i also dont want to disappoint my subscribers on youtube, all my subs for the build threads and to the people who has taken my build as an inspiration. i have an attachment problems with things i own and the the sedan is #1 on the list. it will hit me hard if the car goes and thats something i dont want to go through. im trying to find alternative ways to bypass this thought. there are people o my facebook fan page that are willing to donate to help me achieve a rad support to get this sedan going again. through the thick and thin ive been through with this car, i surely dont want to let it go. but if all options run out..sometimes things has to be done.

all in all, im still holding onto the car. but i need to act quick on what i can do for it to keep it going. i told my mom i will get a job in January if things doesnt go well for me. reason i want to get this car running this year is because i want to get it registered for next years big shows.
