The new daily --> 90 EX!Here is the newest addition to my EF family. I picked it up in Pennsylvania yesterday. The drive was about 11 hours round trip but the price was right and the car was worth it. If the sedan looks familiar that's because it used to be owned and operated by our own Ricer. The car has it's ups and downs but is exactly what the doctor ordered. On to the pix
As you can see the car isn't mint but it isn't bad. Like the title says this is a 1990 EX. Black exterior with grey interior. The car is a manual with a sun roof (not stock) It's got 180k on the dial but has a rebuilt tranny and the motor is super strong. Here's the list of plans.
1st stage = restoration
Fix:
Power Steering
A/C
Cruise control
Power locks
Driver's side fender
Quarter panels
Grille
Replace:
Windshield
CD player
Carpet
3rd brake light
Corner lights
Bumper lights
Exhaust
Add:
Headliner
DA front lip
Yellow headlights
EF side markers
Wheels and tires or at least hubcaps and tires
Paint

I do love these cars! This is my third sedan to join my fleet. The first one is my love and I will always own it. The second was a mistake and is long gone. Third time's the charm right? I can't wait to get started on this. 89civicracer you car is and always has been an insperation. I remember when your sedan was the only one worth looking at on the web. Back before Honda-Tech and Cardomain really.

Not much to update. I did take some more pix but I'll have to wait till I get home to upload them. Still debating on the wheels. Did a tune up; plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, fuel filter, oil filter, engine flush, fresh oil, battery, wipers and got the power locks working. Still a lot to do and it's cold outside

the only thing tasteful about the teal hatch. lol.
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
The antenna wasn't hard to do. Bought the block off plate for around 10 bux on ebay. Remove the stock unit and either cut the wire or remove it from the A pillar. Buy a universal power antenna, which is about 50 dollars. When choosing your location to mount make sure there is room for the bulky power unit. Drill your hole and mount it up. There are 4 wires to run: ground, power, remote and antenna signal. Then turn your radio on and see how it works. This unit receives 10x better then the stock and looks 100x cleaner.
Thanks for the compliments on the wheels. They cleaned up great with minimal scratches. Now all I need is to get rid of the balloons (tires) and I’m good to go. Also considering a camber kit.
|
~Sp33~

I might have to look into that

So I cooked up a crazy idea today. Some of you might remember my old primered sedan. I miss and love that one very much. Don't get me wrong the EX I have now is nice and all but it's not "mine". The body on it is beat to hell but it has all the EX goodies. The primered one is a 88 DX but has a mint body. What if I was to transfer everything minus the sun roof from my EX and put it in my DX. I know it can be done and I know I can do it. It would save me $180 a month in storage unit costs and it would be one less car to transport to Cali this summer when we move. Enough of the novel, just thought I'd share my newest thoughts.
|
jkgonzalez3
|
so your gonna keep both cars or swap the ex and keep that dx.
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
Swap everything out of the EX and into the DX the scrap the EX shell. If I was to do this I would paint the DX the factory cream pudding color. Should I paint the bumpers too or do them black? Do you all think the wheels will look good in silver with that color? If not should I just paint them black or what.
|
jkgonzalez3
|
cant you swap and switch everything then sell it instead of scraping? if you do decide to do this pm cause i might need some parts. oh and on them bumpers you should know my answer i asked you the same question.
|
Type-S EF
|
im all about the lightweight advantages of the 1988, one thing i like about the stock antena is i can put it down for arrowdynamics and can put it up even while driving by sticking my hand out the window, and lighter than any electric unit, no need for it up while playing a cd
your going to leave the auto seatbelts behind right???
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
I'd be swapping:
Hood
Headlights
Corner lights
all 4 complete doors
antenna block off
rear bumper
front suspension and brakes
motor
tranny and linkage
main harness
dash
seats
rear seat belts
rear deck cover
audio and other things i'm sure i'm forgetting
i will leave the auto seatbels and sunroof behind. i would be doing it to have a mint shell, save money and get rid of a car to transport to cali when we move.

|
Can someone photoshop one of the above pix to the 88 DX creame color? Thanks!
|
~Sp33~
|
Sorry man, but that nearly impossible. Black is an ass to work with. if it was recoloured it would look like crazy cartoon mobil.
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
Ohh, well then could you photoshop a pic of Josh's old sedan to all cream instead of the painted bumpers?
|
~Sp33~
|
I can give it a try
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
You da man
|
~Sp33~
|
Well colouring his bumpers turned out shit like i thought it would, so instead i found another car with already coloured bumpers, and just redid the whole car in the stale semen colour that you <3.
Sorry man but thats the best i can do.
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
Good enough, thanks for the chop! Judging by your comment you don't like the cream color?
|
~Sp33~
|
I like it on josh's sedan. i dont think it works well with coloured bumpers though. And the reason i chose that particular car to paint cream was because im a retard and thought you wanted it to look like your current DD.
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
I do, it'll look like a 90 EX but on a 88 shell
|
~Sp33~
|
I cant wait to see what you make of it
|
aaronhume
|
if it were up to me, I would leave the body as is and spend the money on the engine instead, and screw the almond cream color... bleh the current charcoal you have is the best for those sedans, and besides, you'd have to change the interior to brown if you wanted it to match the almond cream hah...
yes the 88s were the lightest, but its also a basic car with no options like power steering, a/c, electric locks and windows, no cruise control... possibly a lighter engine, but not likely...so basically its a 300lb difference from your car, and pulling ugly parts from it to put on your car should be discouraged, but it is your time and money and your car.... also think about the long run of things... when you go to sell an almond cream civic with an 88 swap of everything on it will definitely kill your resale value
instead, I would recommend you rebuild your d16a6 with higher compression pistons or something and after market rods and valve train and a cam if you can find one (and cam gear) and you should easily be able to make up for the 300 lb weight difference and also get your flywheel shaved down to almost half the weight....
think about it before you do your conversion
|
jkgonzalez3
|
i think he means that the ex body is crap and the dx is mint so thats why he would be swapping everything the car being lighter is just a plus.
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
I hear what you're saying aaronhume but jkgonzalez3 is right. I'm not worried about the weight, the DX would weight the same once I put all of the power options on it. I'm still not sure what I want to do.

whats wrong with the body? structural or the body panels you were talking about swapping?
looks good in the pics
|
EF Sedan Enthusiast
|
There's rust, dents, dings and fading. I decided against swaping everything. Hopefully before the summer's over I'll have this body mint with a JDM front on it ohh and some GSR leather front and back
|
jkgonzalez3
|
so youll be keeping both cars? and are you still moving to cali?

are thoes LS meshies? and someone needs a camber kit. I just use a offset upper balljoint, they were like 35 per side and we all know its like the fastest wearing suspension part on our cars. (thats lifetime warentee too)
Otherwise looks good, did you always have the gathers sound? how does it really sound besides it being rare

they're ls meshes and the camber's fine. the bottle caps had horrible camber. the gathers sound surprisingly great!
