Spike in temp. . ? Whats the cause?So, driving the car home tonight, i noticed my temp needle go up slightly, then drop back down to normal. Typically, the temp needle does not move. All of the sudden, the temp moves up, then in about 30 sec, it drops back down.. It kept doing this for a little bit until i got home. Then at idle, it did this again. up then down. . . The fans are kicking on. .
WTF? What does that mean? I have replaced the water pump recently and the coolant level is the same.
I am open to suggestions?!?!
I'll check it again tomorrow when there is daylight. .but damn. . i hate these little issues. . .

i still have those issues too no time to fit it i was told its my heat sending unit sensor, so far i changed my ground to motor changed my radiator cap, radiator, fast idle control 3X they go bad still gotta change it. also hot wired the bypassed the fan sensor always on what really help was the idle control unit temp didnt go up and down until the fast idle control went bad again.

I'd put my money on a thermostat going out.

actually replaced that with a oem honda thermostat still did it then modified thermostat. so it runs cooler. but gauage goes up and down. as long as it doesnt raise to the H redline.

Yea, it never made it to the red. .just stayed in the zone. I may swap the temp sensor first..
Also, how often are you suppose to flush the coolant? I have not done that in a few years. . Maybe something is floating in there that blocked the sensor and caused it to freak. . then when it passes, it went back down. . . I may flush the coolant also. .
Guess i can start there with this one. .

just pop out the thermostat and run it...i have the same problem in my cb7 but as soon as i popped it out it runs cooler since i already know that my radiator needs a cleaning and the fans turn on normal.

Yea, all fans are fine. . no issues there. .

Mine does this aswell.. But it goes to half way stays there then drops back to 1/4 then back up to half again.. Never goes above half though so guess i'm ok..

Mine never moves. . Once it does. . it freaks me out. . The last time it shot up, i had a leak in the radiator and it warped my head. .
So. . i get freaked out when it moves more than 1/4 the way up.

Your thermostat doesn't always just make your temp gauge go to the red, mine was faulty when i got my EF, it would take a long time to reach 1/2 way, then it would drop to cold for ages.

It did, that was why i swapped over to the Vtec head, might as well.
I loved my SOHC A6 with the 301x cam, springs and titanium retainers. . the car was nice and peppy for a D16A6.

Did you happen to bleed all the air out of your coolant system? I say this since you did just change the water pump. I think if you still have some air in there it might go up a little like that since you changed everything else..

you guys are lucky to have a bleeder valve my b16 doesnt have it, i just run the car with the radiator cap off fill it up with coolant or water.

Not sure if i remember doing that . .When i flush the coolant i will hopefully clear out all the air bubbles.
