self tapping screws and rust?

I am wanting to install some side skirts, and plan on using self tapping screws.
I am worried that drilling into the metal chassis of the car will cause the holes to eventually rust.
Is this true? Or is there a way to prevent it?
Can i coat the area with paint or something and then use the screws and it will be fine?

Thanks

I don't think it would be much of an issue, unless it somehow catches and traps water. If you want to , first pre drill the hole, and spray some fish oil up in there. Then put in the screw. Smile

ahh SP33 my saviour.
always full of ideas.

I just went down to Bunnings and spoke to the guy there, he suggested coating the area with KillRust paint before drilling, so i picked up a little bucket for like 10 bucks.

Also just got myself a 3rd gen prelude spoiler that pretty much matches with my civic. Its the four legged one, so i am going to install that real soon =)

Cool  Cool

You can use the power source for the LED from your 3rd brake light, i think it looks funny with both the spoiler and the 3rd brake light as well. Mine with both:

Mine with only the LED:

did you splice the power wire and ground the negative to the chassis?

Or did you just splice the positive and negative and hook them up like that>

Pretty sure i ground it to the chassis, and powered it from the wire.

alright i will do that..
i did a quick test and some of the ligths arent working on the spoiler, but its too much hassle to replace the light.

oh can u check the installling ek sides on an ef.
i have asked you like a million questions =)

3rd gen prelude spoiler wow i seen dc2 spoiler, mr2 not a prelude yet please post a pic. btw you will get some rust from the self tap as i have seen on my car and others. just spray a coat of primer or anti rust on the hole after drilling or using the self tap. i seen some body shops use self taps then spray a heavy coat of paint sealing it.

well i have put on my spoiler. I did not do a write up though, because mostly you line it up and drill holes.

I will mention however that
1. you have to drill though the two layers of the boot which can be difficult if you have to drill on an angle.
2. i covered the holes with killrust paint to prevent any rusting from the newly drilled holes.

oh and the boot is alot heavier, and slams shut

Anyways here are the pictures.

Next to come is the wagovan skirts

and possibly pinstiping? opinions on that please? maybe other colours look better?

i love the lude Spoiler I think im gonna keep my eye out for one of them
liljames

if you find one mate, pm me so i can explain how to install it and line it all up correctly, otherwise you can end up with holes in your boot like i nearly did lol
