Reznunt's daily driver project =)

It all started in June 2008:

The JDM front end conversion included fenders, mud guards, hood, bumper, lip, t-bar, filler, grille, fogs, bumper lights, 1-piece headlights, and sidemarkers.

First trip to the junkyard netted these:

Before:

After:

Before:

After:

New steering wheel:

Miracle elixir:

My new old shoes:

New rotors/pads:

Cleaning stuff is therapeutic:

New stuff:

Trim paint makes me happy:

My new rear-view mirror:

Paint day!

Before and after:

Freshly steam cleaned/shampooed, dyed carpet and a few painted interior trim pieces:

New windshield:

How she sits now:

Custom headlight and fog light brackets:

King Bolt supplied the center cap hardware:

Baking in 100-degree heat, waiting for color sanding:

Thanks to Aldrich, Jon Jon, and Aina for all the help.  Big ups to Auto Network Body Shop.  I almost set this thing on fire but I think it's coming along nicely now.  It's been a rough three weeks.  I'll keep updating the post as more parts arrive.  Let me know what you guys think!

*** Since I'm getting a lot of IM's about it, this is the trim paint I used:
https://shoponline.wurthusa.co....jsp/

UPDATE:

I got these installed:

and replaced the raggedy door handles with fresher ones:

and this came in the mail:

i put these on:

and these feel a lot better on my feet than the old ones:

and these are some shots before color sand:

more stuff:

here's some freeway pics with my new mud guards:

Then I needed some fresh wheels so this is what I did...

These BBS were SOLD!

Here's my new set... 15x9 4x100 +13 with 195-45-15 Toyo T1R:

pics after the jdm radiator support and new black interior installed:

finally got some pics of my visors.  thanks for the hook up, robert!

i also finally got a black lower console (thanks for the heads up, robert!).  i also have a new favorite mod: my shifter extension!

and robert hooked me up with a dope cluster.  i think he said it was from a 35xt special edition.

scored these genuine oem mirror covers on ebay. yay!

here are some test fit pics:

i sold my bbs rs' because i'm building a brand new set of bbs rs 16x9 +0 with 195-40-16's.  for now, i'm sitting on some ssr formula mesh which are also for sale:

my mudguards look pretty high off the ground, don't they?  that's because i cut off the part that says honda lol.

i also got an ef7 muffler so i can temporarily have dual tips until i can score a mugen teardrop for a reasonable price.  here's a pic of the muffler before they hung it:

my new shoes i just built:

BBS RS003
16x9 +0
4x100
3" lips

the tires are 195-40-16 yokohama s-drive's.  it took seven degrees of negative camber and lots of grinding and clearancing to keep the suspension components from rubbing:

in preparation of my new recaros, i decided to refurbish my carpet.  here is a before pic:

after vacuuming, shampooing, and a re-dye, she came out like this:

my mint recaro ls-m's came!

the headrests are original, leather wrapped with netting:

the original black/red gradient is so pretty and rare!

these seats are almost completely brand new!
~Sp33~

I remember seeing the original beater looking sedan on H-T. Then the pics of your JDM front sedan with the BBS rims circulated - I had no clue it was the same car.

Incredible photography (the EOS 5D's are great!) on an incredible car. Thanks for posting.

thanks!  since it was supposed to be my daily (for when i start my comprehensive eg or ek hatch build), i'm planning on keeping the stock motor.  it still runs great.  i'm picking up some si seats and maybe an hks exhaust this week.

yes, jdmcarboy supplied the whole front end (minus the radiator support).  the fogs were already mounted by the japanese guy that owned the front end and they are a bit crooked.  i hate it and it bugs the crap outta me. i'm going to eventually fix it.

i knew i reconized that front end thats why i had to ask. it used to belong to some guy that i used to go to meets with but he traded it for a quick release system. This is how i fixed my fogs i went to the junk yard and got some prelude fog brackets that gave me an inch exentsion and now they sit flush with my bumper and are not crooked anymore. ill try to get some pics to show u sometime. but nice sedan those wheels make the car look really nice. are they 15's?

What is so cool is that you 4 door people in cali get to meet other 4 door people with the same level of interest. .Not only that but i have never seen so many ef's at a meet before. . . . Now that is cool. .

Not true, I had a nice turn out before I left VA at the East Coast EF Meet.  But I think that was the same weekend as your gf's bday.  You could always ship your car out here and fly out Very Happy  You can stay at my place if you ever decide to make it out here.
ksconekiller

I have to say this is one of the best transformations I have seen, and your attention to detail and desire to perform the job correctly is top-notch.

That being said, I do have 2 comments.  First, do you really like the way the wheel is wider than the tire?  Of all the cars I've seen like this, it's never looked right to me, and I understand it's not the safest way to go.  I've always been about getting the most rubber under the car as possible.  Second, you have 4 degrees of negative camber on the car?  Holy crap.  Do the tires squeal when you drive down the road?  Laughing

Please don't take offense to any of this; I don't mean it that way.  I guess I'm just used to prepping my cars for maximum performance rather than looks.  On a useful note-- if I read that right, and you do have 4 degrees of camber on the car, make sure you have your toe set to zero.  Otherwise, you'll get to replace tires a lot.

Once again, beautiful car, and keep us informed of updates!

I've been quiet about this long enough......why stretch tires like that for a civic?  I know it is done on drift cars for instantaneous turn in response, because waiting for the sidewall to load could mean the difference to an inch away, and scrubbing a wall.....i have a 255 on 11" wheels on my 240sx.  Your example is even drifting....
~Sp33~

Nothing wrong with wanting sharp turn in response.  He's selling the wheels anyway.

What wheels have you got planned for round two?
hondacivicdx

Your fuel injector unit did you get it from the junk, i thinking of changing mine to a multi injector unit instead of a dual But that is a great transformation and bringing it back to life  that's very nice keep up the good work.

if you think my tires are stretched, you obviously haven't seen a vw lately.  but the mild stretch you are referring to was for looks and fitment.  deep dish, low offset wheels tend to have stretched tires.

the example with the drift car was for the other guy's question about safety.

you're right in that they have the same style... in all honesty, i'd just rather run ssr than bbs because i don't want to have to defend myself from the haters every time i post a pic of my car.  you know, those purists that say bbs goes on a vw only (even though these bbs came from japan).  also, i can pull some equity out of the wheels since the ssr's will be a little cheaper  Smile

ya, i built a new set and those are on it now.  in a month, my MINT gold hayashi racing mesh with center caps will arrive!

here's what i have been up to:

mitsubishiv5

dont worry about the haters. mostly cause i think they cant even afford a stretch in the first place. i love the fitment and mild stretch you got. btw im planning on stretching mine as well and since your car is a great example i might as well get info from you.

i saw a 195/40/15 on an 8 inch looks cool but the tire doesnt seem to angle in much.

maybe the tire wall needs to be thicker? like 45 series or 50?

any feedback?
ThurmanMerman

A 40 or 50 tire is going not give it as much stretch as the sidewalls are going to be larger. Go for a 185/40/XX. Thats gangter.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

what in the world are you up to reznunt?  are you going to make it out to the socal sedan meet?

isee 185 sounds like an uncommon tire size. especially for a 15 inch rim. any threads that you reccoment or any pics of the stretch you say? just pm me the info. Very Happy

i don't have any experience with a 195/40 so i can't comment.  i've only tried two different brands of 195/45 and i can say that one looks almost normal (nexen) and the other stretches like crazy (toyo).

i can say that a shorter profile and/or narrower width will increase tire stretch.

there's a sedan meet?  sweeeet.  when/where?

i just installed the jdm radiator support so my front end fits like it's from the factory.  i got a new jdm front bumper with no fog light holes cut in them.  i like the cleaner look.  after installing the new bbs', i dropper the car another .8 inches.  and i bought another 4-door because of it's immaculate black interior and swapped it into my car!  i also needed a daily lol.

ya, but it took a lot of mickey mousing to get it to look right.  with the jdm rad. support, it fits almost like oem now and without any home depot brackets lol.  i can pop the hood without being ashamed now haha.

the s2 front camber kit works great.  no problems and they do what they're designed to do.

this dood i know imports jdm parts and he mostly deals with ef's.  he had one laying around in his warehouse so i offered him $100 for it.

i didn't take pics during the process.  i was too busy doing the actual work.  looking back, i wish i would have documented it.  the process is straight forward.

first, i drilled out 25+ spot welds on each side with a spot weld drill bit and popped off the old support.  then, i drilled out the spot welds on the new support removing the old ef2 frame rails.  i used a grinder to clean off my frame rails, bolted the new support on, and test fitted the whole front.  once i was satisfied, i took everything off and welded the support into place with a 110V flux core welder from harbor freight.  even on it's lowest setting, this welder is strong enough to burn through sheet metal quite easily so i did my best.  i grinded the welds down and used white krylon to temporarily cover the bare metal.  then i bolted all the body parts back on and smiled from ear to ear!

hey rob, it's mike.  thanks for the hookup on the visors and the console piece.

your car looks great!  i think jon jon spent more time on your paint than he did mine!   Mad   i'm going to have a talk with him.  your interior is hot!  and it's so clean too.  so when's she going to be put together?  in time for the sedan meet?  and most importantly, what wheels are you going to rock???  inquiring minds would like to know.

No problem  mike cant wait to see the visors on your ride, jon jon sure can get down on his work, glade i went with him  on the paint. Cant make the sedan meet going to s.f on vacation next meet for sure. Not yet decided on the wheels yet hope i will soon
Very Happy
