question about acthe ac in my 4g4d doesnt work i dont know if its a leak or if its the compressor. should i delete the who deal or should i try to salvage it. btw i live in southern cali. San diego to be exact. your opinions will be greatly appriciated.

it could be o-rings, it could be the compressor, it could be alot of things. if you go to a shop, and get the system charged, you can check for leaks in they system. if you have a leak, you need o-rings, if it holds, but doesn't cool, you probably need a compressor.

I live in Fla and i need the ac..If you do not think you need it, then delete it. If you want it. You will need to trace down the problem. You will have to do a leakdown test and see if it is a hose, or compressor.
When you hit your AC button, do you hear the ac compressor kick on? If not, that may be your issues right there...Another thing you can do is fill the refregerant up and see if it takes... There are so many ways to handle this... I guess it all depends on whether you want AC or not, and how committed you are to getting it back up and running.....

im not particularly seton keeping it i kinda want to delete it but was curious to see how hard salvaging it might have been. would anyone here have a link to walkthrough stripping your engine bay of un needed clutter? id love to get my bay ready for a wire tuck. Thx in advance for the help.

since winter is here and its cold really dont need a/c until summer repairs might go from $50 and up. if its compressor they cost alone $350 and up, a used one goes for $50.

You can pick up a set of manifold gauges and an a/c vacuum pump at Harbor Freight for around $65. Then you can put a vac on the system and see if you have a leak. Its actually pretty easy. The catch is our sedan have an R-12 refrigerant system which is VERY expensive.
If you want to save a few bucks once you get you a/c back in working order recharge it with r-134. A lot of people will tell you BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, YOU CAN'T PUT 134 IN A R-12 SYSTEM! But how many of them have ever tried? I have done it on multiple vehicles(OF MY OWN) with no ill affects other than R-12 blows SO much colder than 134

r 12 is colder...i done that too with my van mix it up but my compressor went bad
