nine d one.. whatup?!

What's goin on everybody?

Laid back cat from Long Island NY.
New/1st time Civic owner. Just bought a 91 dx sedan.
It's automatic, but s'all good for now. Needs some body work but i can't complain.
I always had a thing for this civic gen and wanted one for some time now (Finally got it).
I'm by no means a mechanic nor have i personally worked on any one of my previous cars
but I'm tryin to learn about the in's & out's of my ef and not have to solely depend on someone else to do the work.
So yeah im a big noob.  Embarassed  Rolling Eyes haha
I'll take pics of my car tomorrow bein that its real shitty out today. Its stock but im looking to start off with suspension. Any suggestions?

Good lookin (in advance) for all suggestions, help, tips etc..

good lookin' out fellas..

Right now i dont know where to start.
Should i do suspension 1st? or
Wheels & tires before suspension?
clean up the body (new bumpers, hood  r/l rear pass. doors, side  moldings?)
Would like to do a swap but realistically wont happen till next yr or so.
sharpie

I would say to start with body and then suspension then wheels and tires

should i go with used/new salvage yard pieces
or
go ahead and find a body man to do the work?

if this was your car how would you go about cleaning up the body?
(im sure most of you can do the work yourself, but in this case, let's pretend you can't  Smile  )

Also if i were to go the bodywork route, where can i get the side molding? salvage yard? online? I like the look of the car being "cut in two".

thanks again..

welcome to the site. i give you mad props you got balls. before i messed with the body i worked on the motor first. if you got the time go hit some salvage yards or a friend at a body shop to order new metal parts fenders hoods etc oem style made in Taiwan bumpers $30. if you want to do it right borrow tools free paint it the right way. take a autobody class at Junior college. i repaired and painted my prelude, civic  and my brothers mightyD50. you'll learn alot. some of my classmates painted there whole car there too. or do this http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2132553

I'm glad you suggested taking the auto body class. I just looked up some classes and they start on 7/07/09.
Cost $395 (which i could use for the car, but the learning experience seems like it'll be more valuable).
I guess i'll really weigh the options over this week.
but

By December i would like to:

-have the body all cleaned up,
-suspension and wheels,
-newer seats and fresher interior

By next Spring i would like to:

-have a full single swap &
-brand new paint (if i don't paint it in the autobody class)
-a sexy ass motherEFer

i appreciate all the help and suggestions so far. keep'em coming.

I'd probably find replacement panels from the wreckers, my car got the most attention when it was all different colours  Cool

Yea. I've actually found a couple pieces that i need for my car at some junkyards around the way.

its a good start. alot of the experience needed for replacement, is absorbed at wrecking yards. once you take an item off/out of a car, you know how to put i in. thats my method of learning. the paintwork will be easy, you can rattlecan it for now to avoid attention from police, well thats what i'd recommend. good looking car.  Smile

Thanks.
Tomorrow i go to get it inspected and then head to the yard to see
if i can pick up 2 rear doors. Possibly a crx dash and center console if available.
We'll see.. Hopefully all goes well.

Thanks again for all the advice guys. Really appreciated.
