My slow and broke craigslist project

Well I picked this 1989 civic Lx up for my daily driver but as you all know when you start to drive an EF it sucks you in and you want more out of it. This will be a slow build as im broke but ill make the best of it good things come in time right?  It's pretty simple right now it has some minor mods done to it but nothing extensive. I don't have any major plans for it but im currently trying to aquire a car bra and some spoon mirrors for it and finish my 88-89 conversion to 90-91 taillights. Here are some pictures ill try and snap more this week.  Here is a small walkthrough the video sucks youtube did this no shaking and it made it weird.

Chick hit my parked car  Shocked

D16a6 Head off my Crx Si this will be getting all cleaned and a painted vale cover (no idea on paint color yet)

While I was reupholstering my headliner my buddy was detailing his engine some figure I would post it

Headliner getting ready

Headliner trimmed up and finished

91 cluster with the harness I still need to wire in. (Anyone know how to roll the odometer to 0 when I install the head I want to know exactly how many miles im putting on it)

Here is an armrest I got at the junkyard for $10 was sitting in back of a ef 4 door. Am I correct  in thinking this is for a wagon by chance? I need to strip the paint and recover the armrest which im in the process of doing.

1987 Crx Si Shift Knob one of my favorite OEM's

90-91 Left Side Tail im buying the rest slowly im poor  Laughing

I have the DIY sprayed ambers but im siding with going oem on the corners

1989-1991 Honda Crx Si front seats. Does anyone know if you can swap the rails or do I need to swap pans havent found the info thanks in advance.

89civicracer

That's the same arm rest i think i have.. It works with the sedans..
Geo-93

Your going good on your sedan many improvements
The odometer I been tryin to find that out too
4dred6

Looking good homie  Wink
jmanwantsboost

Man that's a damn good start. I dig the purple headliner!
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Yeah, what they said  Very Happy
jmanwantsboost

I commented on your video lol. What will you be doing for carpet?
HondaJunkie

Thanks alot guys this just helps my motivation. As for the carpet im holding off cause I want black or purple im still contemplating but probably black. Thanks for the confirmation on the armrest much appreciated. Well today it was about 10 degrees outside and I started cleaning my d16a6 transmission with a wire brush and man it looks alot better then when it did I had a bad distributor O-ring so oil ran all over it =/.
HondaJunkie

So I have no updates for the sedan yet but I did finally finish stripping my crx so it's ready for the crusher figured id snap a couple quick pics. I have random crx misc parts for sale as well pm me if you need something.

Funny you say that man cause I had some guy stop me in the parking lot and he was saying "DUDE I had to stop and see how the fuck you got that so low cause I have a crx at home" I had to break the bad news and tell him I had no struts or springs on it haha.
4dred6

Haha i guess he's never seen a Honda without struts.

Headliner  Cool nice collection of parts... my 91 si seats didn't fit in my 89 cause the rails but it was a easy fix... no seat pan swap or any b.s. ... just rail swap

Sweet right on well I might do that tommarow then and have to throw up some more pictures.
HondaJunkie

I figure ill throw a couple old pics of my hatch project I know it's not a sedan but im trying to keep people from falling asleep on the thread lol. This was my first so called build I did when I was like 17 or 18.

It was a 1993 Civic hatch Cx

This was a D15B8 block luckily it had 8 valve relief pistons so I swapped a D15b7 head on.

D15B7 Head With a D16a6 Cam

D16Y8 Intake Manifold ported better for turbo then z6

A Little IHI turbo was good for little power gain and still good mpg

I have some more pictures of previous cars ive owned ill try and dig them up and just post a couple of each.

It was a fun car but it had some body damage I never got around to fixing but it was a good high school car until I curb launched it and screwed the frame up I felt so stupid and my corner lights popped out.
4dred6

How that happen, that happen to my cousin once, he blew both front tires, and bent the radius rod and lca while racing,  Razz  (ef hb).
jmanwantsboost

Always had a soft spot for eg hatches. Cool ride.

Samething my lower control arm buckled on me and I spun out over a curb and bent the crossmember and the H-brace. It sucked cause I was slammed at the time to so it didnt make hitting the curb any better lol.
4dred6

Haha that sucks, I guess that's the price for street racing
jon_akers

You really know how to strip a car down!
As far as the odometer, when you look at it you should be able to figure it out! There is a small clip on back to pull then slide each number over off its track and you can spin them freely.

You can never go wrong with a craigslist build!

Haha hell yeah I had a blast stripping my crx. Thanks for the odometer help good looking. Yes a craigslist build is always the best id rather reuse then buy new I dont need to make a show car and never use it id rather build it and abuse it.

4dred6 wrote:

You know what sucks even more is I wasnt even street racing I was just driving home lol. Dude my stomach was near my heart when I hit the curb lol.
HondaJunkie

Well im pretty annoyed right now I was told my crx seats would only need the rails switched from my sedan seats and that doesnt work. So i then took apart the seats and swapped out the seat pans and that definitely doesnt work. Does anyone know how to do this cause im really tired of all this wrong information and cant seem to find anyone who has done this.
88sedan

i tried putting 90 si front seats in my sedan. all the bolts line up except for 1, you could just put a long bolt inside and try to get it to go inside the hole lol and it'll hold
HondaJunkie

91sedan wrote:

Yea im actually just getting rid of my crx seats and trying to get some DC LS seats or some DA teg seats from what im reading those are like the only seats that work with the ef sedans. It sucks though cause honestly del sol or crx seats would be the best cause they will sit the lowest but o well ill sacrfice height for something that fits.
4dred6

i had DC and now i have DA seats but ive used self tapping bolts in the past. idk if you want to try it.

Nice thats good info to have ill keep that in mind. So I got to pick your brain for a sec what was the better of the two seats to you the DC or DA ones. Reason I ask is I have a guy im willing to trade my si seats for his mint DC ls seats that are blue confetti in the middle and like blackish gray on the outside. Oh and which one sat the lowest and was the easiest to put in?
4dred6

Oh yeah definitely go with the DCs. They were easier to install.
HondaJunkie

Sweet sounds good thanks for the heads up. Did they make black ls seats by chance?
88sedan

will Dc seats bolt right up on a sedan?
4dred6

Idk if they ever came black I had blue/purple ish. Not they don't bolt right up, I can't remember if only 3 bolts fit, but I used those bolts
HondaJunkie

I might hold off then if they dont all bolt up I should just save up and get a Bride driver bucket then if I need to go threw the trouble of fab work. I love the ef sedans but they really suck with swapping seats it's kind of depressing lol.
4dred6

Yeah i feel you
Sancho

It's even worse swapping seats on 90-91's because they have the stupid auto seatbelts.
HondaJunkie

Sancho wrote:

Yea I could only imagine would give me a headache.
HondaJunkie

No real updates as of right now but here this week I think im going to try and put on the crx si rear control arms and rear sway bar. I recently got an offer for my crx si seats for a gsr head and I hope it goes threw but you know how craigslist is Rolling Eyes   Anyway got bored just snapped a couple pics after washing the bitch off.

4dred6

looking good buddy
HondaJunkie

Well I got the crx rear lower control arms on yesterday and everything went smooth the bushings are still decent but will need changed next year. Im waiting on my energy suspension bushings for the sway bar and then ill throw that on and post pictures once thats done. For this build im really trying to focus on doing oem type upgrades and I was wondering does anyone know of a front strut bar from some model that would fit our EF chassis?
4dred6

Nice, as for the strut bar aftermarket ones will fit ef eg ek da and dc.
the adj ones of course . Oem I don't think so.
jmanwantsboost

So strut bar from those newer chassis' fit the ef? That's interesting.
4dred6

Yep, but like i said just the aftermarkets. Del sols too. I had one on mine but gave it to my homie and it fit perfect on his sol. Like the 3 piont ones i dont think thell fit. Only if its for a EF chassis.
HondaJunkie

Well I havent been to busy lately with the car considering the weather wanted to shit a blizzard on us but I have got around to fixing somethings. I finally got my whole cluster situation figured out and wired in the new 91 harness cause my 89 harness was still installed at the time and im also cleaning up the wire tuck that was done. I should be picking up a passenger mirror delete plate tommarow as well. Here is a link to a little video I wanted to shoot to give you an idea.

Sweet
HondaJunkie

Some progress has been made and ive fixed most of the cars problems besides the motor being on it's way out. I went for a little cruise and snapped a couple photos and I also have a couple pics of the dash out while I was fixing some wiring issues.

Dash Out

Installed my crx si rear lower control arms(the crx ones are the bottom ones with the rear sway bar mounting hole.)

Couple pics from todays cruise everything is back together and works good!

Yea it's been great the last couple of days and thanks I plan to get it painted this summer.

Thanks man it's a 93 integra ls front lip from a coupe. I have a Volvo 740 lip as well but I need to figure out a way to fit it better.

So glad this sedan went to a good home. Thanks for keeping us updated and keep up the good work.

Looking great man. I love the blue. its called cobalt pearl i think. same as mine! I have the same little dents along the pqassenger side of my car haha. but when you got 261k its bound to happen. someday i need to get my ass out there and go cruise lol.

Thanks buddy appreciate the good words. I honestly don't remember what the paint code is but I should figure that out soon sense I plan to have this painted the same color this summer. Those dents drive me nuts it's a lot of little door dings and the front fenders where rolled so they are kind of beat up. Just move down here we seriously need more EF sedan people it's a very small crowd.
jmanwantsboost

I still have my paint code sticker on my car. I'll have to go check it. There is a sticky in the tech write up section that has paint codes as well.
HondaJunkie

Sense ive finally got new speakers in the sedan I decided to get the sub and amp ready for install. Now I just need to find a black rear deck with speaker holes and I will finally have a legitimate setup.

12" Infinity Reference Sub with a 900 Watt Jensen Amp inside a Subzero box. Ive used this in my crxs and my other ef sedan and it's perfect imo besides not having a better amp for it.

Sweet
89 LX SOHC ZC

Nice.
HondaJunkie

Well I went to the junkyard about 3 days ago and found some nice black carpet from a 90 gs integra $15 so I bought it and forced it to fit. It's by no means great and it doesn't even fit well without cutting a lot of the carpet out in the high points but it's still better then no carpet at all but I wouldn't recommend spending your money lol. I also got some cheap ebay visors that I threw on. Im heading up to Westminster later today about 40-50 minute drive for me to grab this passenger mirror delete plate from this guy on craigslist. I can snap a couple more pics of the carpet without the floor mats later.

New mug style window visors

The best part of the drive to pick up parts ( other than getting the part) is the anticipation. Very Happy

HondaJunkie

Yea ive been waiting to pickup this mirror delete for quite some time so im pretty excited and it's only $10 so im a happy camper.
HondaJunkie

Well my motivation to work on the sedan has been pretty bad ive been enjoying the junkyards more at the moment. But ive snapped just a couple pictures of minor stuff ive done and items ive found.

Put in new pioneer speakers and dynomat Driver Side

Passenger side

Those ebay shifters are such good quality lol

Removed the mounting tabs for the spare tire still need to clean it up some and remove that paint. No more spare tire hate those things.

Removed the stock lx clock and put in an amber color Si clock.
The stock is on the left and the Si is on the right not that it matters lol.

Almost got the 90-91 tails swap done just need the center granish but I kinda like the 88-89 more should I sacrifice reverse lights. These also arent plug-in play like everyone says for future reference for anyone wanting correct information.

Bought a 10" Bubble Shift knob alot of people dont like it but I like them it's more from the drift community im trying to combine honda and drift themes sense I like both.

Found an OEM radio delete with the Honda in the middle off ebay I got a steal on this item.

Thanks to the help from EFman on here we snagged some rear konis for  the sedan at the junkyard.

4dred6

sick shifter, and yea the plugs on the tails are different.
HondaJunkie

Thanks it serves its purpose and with the tails the plugs are different and its a 2 wire plug for the center granish not a 1 wire and you also need to get a 90-91 trunk lid with the center garnish cutouts cause the 88-89 dont have them. I like the look better but its not worth the hassle imo.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Good stuff man.  If I was you, I'd keep that center and go all red with the tails.
4dred6

EF Sedan Enthusiast wrote:

Thanks for the insight guys im leaning towards that myself ill just use hand signals to let people know im backing up lol. Im currently fighting with someone over a pair of oem stanley corner lights on ebay well see if I can snag those up.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Good stuff man I have the 4 inch shift knob like that in clear just a word of warning they don't like the heat and sunlight mines got a bunch of little cracks in it and its only a few months old.
HondaJunkie

Yea i like the shifter alot but it's funny you say that only after a week I have a couple cracks already. But now I just throw either a t-shirt on it when I leave or swap my regular one back on. I might just use the knob for meets and cruises.
HondaJunkie

I got some HIDs that came in the mail today. They are just some cheap ones from ebay but ive had really goodluck with these 12k xentec brand. Depending on my motivation level I might get pictures after a wash.
FlatTireRacer

I had good luck with those Xentec's in my last sedan as well. Very nice product for the price!
4dred6

So I saw this on H-T, got any moe pix

~Sp33~

90-91 tails? Booo!  Razz
