Motor Mount Fitment Problem

I wanted to post this up to see if anybody else had this problem.

I recently purchased a set of aftermarket mounts from Innovative. The transmission side fit perfect, the driver side needed a 1/2 inch spacer (but not a big deal), but the rear mount refuses to fit.

Has anybody else purchased this kit (88-91 civic/crx d-series with cable trans) or had a similar problem?

From what i have seen the mount and transmission bracket are the same between the Hatchback and Sedans, but I have not found anything that says the same about the crossmember.

I am currently working with the company, but thought i would hit everybody here up as well.
thanks.

I am not swapping out my D15B2, they are replacement mounts from the company.

If you still dont get the right part if you would call Advance Auto
this is where i am getting  lifetime motor mounts from and also a
lifetime starter, If you don't get the results you are looking for try these guys

on the rear crossmember there are two sets of bolt holes left and right. And I think that the d series mount goes on the left side when you are looking tward the firewall. I know hasport only uses the two holes. I dont know if you have looked at it or not, if not  give it a try
4GSEDAN

which two bolts?

The problem i am having is that the opening for the through bolt is about 1/2 inch to far forward (towards the radiator) which is throwing everything off.

thanks for the input.

can you post a pic? i not really understanding the problem.

can't you just lift the engine up to try to get it to fit in its mounts?

Ok are you using a motor hoist? if so keep most of the weight on the hoist, then lower it where you can aline the bolt up with the hole it goes into, is it off centered, did you stab your transmission
right??I also have a D15B series motor i had a problem with the right mount it was not alining right, Mabey it's off centered?? Check that again. Do you have a standard or automatic?
4GSEDAN

here are a couple pics. I tried massaging the engine into place with a jack, but no dice.
below you can see how the holes for the through bolts dont line up.

The next two are the transmission barcket not lining back up.

if you look far left you can see where the bolt is supposed to go.

You can see in this one the bolt hole is almost completely covered by the mount.

There is little to no adjustability with the mounts.

Initially I thought the engine just shifted after I tried to put in the new mount and it did not fit. But then the factory mount slid right back in with no trouble.

If anybody has any ideas, I am trying pretty much anything at this point.  I have tried three times to get this mount in with no luck.

Do you have a manual or automatic?? This will make a difference
I think you might have the wrong mounts. While looking at the old one it looks much fater than the one you bought, but i could be wrong
4GSEDAN

I have a manual.

I think it is just the angle of the picture that makes it look wider.
jkgonzalez3

do you have the mount that's by the timing belt on?
if so
i would try to mount the rear one by itself first.
the rear mount appears to have the holes the same width apart as the stock mount.

it also matters if you received a auto tranny mount cause it has a diffrent bolt pattern then the manual.

maybe the 1/2" spacer you used is twisting everything? also when doing this do not tighten all the mounts down leave them loose.
4GSEDAN

all the mounts were on when i was trying to install this one.

I'll make a list of all the suggestions and try them.
Then let everybody know which one worked. haha

That was in the back of my mind the whole time i was reading.
4GSEDAN

i wanna say that its not the spacer, it is only on there because the stud did not have enough thread to fully tighten down the nut.

and if the engine was twisted i wouldn't think that the stock mount would slid in and out as easily as it does.

Is anybody that is running aftermarket mounts still using the front motor mount? I am beginning to think if i can take that off I may be able to get the engine to wiggle a little.
jkgonzalez3

well those those mounts do look like they change the position of the motor. just try the rear mount first
