K20a2 89 civic lx Project...!.!.!.!.

Well guys, the time has finally come to let the cat out the bag. This has been a long time coming and it's been even harder to keep it under wraps for so long.

This project will take some time but I'm hoping to finish her before the year is over.

Goodies Acquired:

Complete jdm ef front
Hybrid racing shifter box
K-tuned traction Bar
K-tuned alternator relocation kit
Rywire conversion harness
Ex Spindles
K20a2 with ecu, harness, shifter cables, axles...
Headlight washer system with squirters
Jdm fog lights complete with harness
Innovative K swap mounts
Mugen Si shift knob
Jdm sedan tails ( amber wraps around )
Jdm sedan interior ( minus the door panels )

Goodies still needed:
Kpro ( a must )
Header ( skunk 2 or K-tuned )
Sonem hydro Conversion kit
Full Suspension setup
Ef karcepts hubs ( when there done )
Complete fuel setup

I'm pretty sure there's some stuff I'm leaving out but that sort of sums it up. hopefully it'll turn out to look as good as some of the members on here have there cars. I'll be working on this car myself for some of the work and helped with some other things when needed.

The swap doesn't scare me as much as putting the jdm front end on. The wire tuck will also be a challenge since I'll have the fogs and headlight washer system to integrate as well.

Here's the donor that's been sleeping for a while

Jdm front bumper with a vw lip i think.

Jdm front end on previous owners car.

Shifter sexiness

Jdm Tails..

The beast

I'll post more recent pics of her tomorrow. The bay is almost completely stripped down..
Joey f.

Hooooly crap this is going to be a beast of a 4 door !!!
Ef3typeS

Thanks kid. Hopefully I'll put some serious power down.
89civicracer

Nice... Cannot wait to see it...
That is Enrique's front end?  I know Enrique for years man...YEARS!

Where are you on the East Coast? What is nuts is that that doner car is the same color as mine.... and if you convert and paint it that same color,  it will probably end up looking like mine, except for the K.... Smile If you are close to me, i can help you with the JDM front. I did mine a few years back....
Ef3typeS

damn small world. Yeah  i bought the front end off of him a while back. Hows his car coming out. Last he told me he was getting something exclusive. I'm around the new york area..
89civicracer

Yea man, i have known Enrique for close to a decade now...We have both had our cars for a long ass time... I guess until now with him. He is going forward with his plans. I don't think his dreams of a RHD 4door are coming true, but he is putting all those sick ass spoon shit on a new chassis.... Sucks that you are up in the NY area. I am on the other end in Florida... Maybe you car will be done in time for Import Alliance in Tenn next year... People come from all over the states to that show.... Plus, it would be nice to see another Ef2 front end at that show... Last year i was the only one.....  Smile
Sancho

All that I can say is WOW!!!
Ef3typeS

That sounds like something I'm down to do. I just have to put in the wrench time. I'm about to start doing the wire tuck which is gonna be hell.. But i still love it.  Very Happy  I'll get some new pics in a few.  It's raining human body parts out here  Confused
89civicracer

A guy here locally just installed a K in his CRX.. Shaved and tucked the bay... Pretty clean... If you are doing anything like that... It is going to be sick!

Ef3typeS

More pics...

Sorry there cell phone pics for right now. i got to get my camera out for this build.

Plans for tomorrow involve.
Removing all cables from engine bay
Pulling the fuse box inside the car
And all other things that need to get removed since i won't be using them.. Very Happy

Anyone know where i can buy some black loom? The nylon looking stuff.

The battery post in the bay I'm doing, no questions asked. Brake relocation is something i want to do but not a real priority right now. but who knows....
Mr.ef2sedan

Looking good, cant wait to see how everything turns out.
Ef3typeS

me too, i get more and more anxious everyday.  Laughing
89civicracer

I know man.. I have through of doing this swap a few times... and since my other car is an RSX-S..... I wish i can marry the two... But until my motor completely blows or something drastic happens to it... Swapping to a K will only be a thought.... I have to live vicariously through you guy's!   Wink
Ef3typeS

Ohhh yeah Smile

What a mess  Shocked

Tomorrow i have to bring down all my goodies and get them all wired up inside the car before i start extending wires and stuff. The rear cross member is also coming out since I'm replacing it with a manual one. And i think the brake relocation kit is a must. The bay wouldn't look 100% tucked without it.  Twisted Evil

OMG i knew it! that guy had the bronze glass hatch for sedan! and i wanted it soooooo badly but i live days away from LA. That guy had doors and all the little things, interior and parts! but this guy wasnt alfredo was he?
Ef3typeS

Alfredo? Negative... The guy who sold me the front was mad cool. I'm surprised he hasn't joined this site since he has exclusiveness all over his 4 door. When i saw his post on craigslist I wanted to buy everything off of him but i ended up talking my self down to just the essentials.  Confused  I think back now and i should of bought everything he had. Oh well, at least i got the front end and various other things.  Twisted Evil

P.S.

His car was straight fire with all his parts.
mitsubishiv5

so how did you get the front end all the way to the east side? i picked my front end off craigslist san diego and drove to and fro, from santa clara to sandiego border in a day to buy the complete front end off the seller  Wink

cant wait though. diffferent theme so different feel. sedans are always beautiful no matter what you do with them
Ef3typeS

He shipped it all out to me piece by piece. We couldn't find a good freight shipper and that route meant he had to put everything on a pallet. which would of been a pain in the ass and might of gotten beat to shit. Again, extremely cool dude. I think that might of been the last jdm front for sale in the us. I literally haven't seen another complete one for sale since then. That's why i jumped on his and got lucky.

The front end looked like he washed it twice a day everyday in Cali. Shit was cleeeeeeeean. Is clean.  Very Happy
liljoey

jdm front end envy!i have been lookin for  a complete ef2 front conversion and no luck.
Ef3typeS

Well i haven't done anything else to her this weekend. I was busy installing a stealth alarm on my brothers DA.. It was my first time installing an alarm, and a stealth one at that. That crap took me all weekend to finish. Came out nice though..   Cool

I should get the wiring done to my car this week. I'll keep you posted with pics and info soon..
MRA4886

looks good man. hope you get it finished. i had a k24 i was gonna install then times got rough and i sold out before ever getting to it. good luck on it. and the jdm front is sexy i always want one.
LXKID88

Thanks, and it will be.

I have to put this project first again. I got lost in Google Nexus phones for a while, lol.

Since my new job has me with 3 weeks of vacation, it's time to put that time to work.

Since the last time i updated the thread, i just welded in the passenger side mount. Time to get everything fit and that JDM front on!

I will update this as soon as things get going next year.

My Nexus 4 will be the last phone I buy until I finish the ef lol, promise.. Wink

Happy New Years!!
89 LX SOHC ZC

Welcome back LOL cant wait to see what you get done on vaca.
Ef3typeS

Well guys, two days of hell equals total happiness.

2013 is looking bright fellas. I'm feeling way focused right now! I can't feel my arms but it was all worth it. Can I be added to the list of JDM front ends ? Twisted Evil

I started off by drilling out the old headlight buckets. Once i had the passenger side off, there was no turning back. The driver side was next.

Clamped the JDM buckets down and test fitted the rest. It looks so damn sexy!

Got my welder out and went to town. A bit nervous at first but it went smooth after a few spot welds here and there. When I saw everything line up perfect, I took everything off and welded everything in for good. Slapped it all back on and there wasn't anything that could take that smile off my face. Very Happy

I also test fitted something else!  Twisted Evil

Did all this in two days with help from my little brother and a close friend.

Pics up soon!!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll be back out of state to work on her some more in about 2 weeks.

Plans are to remove the engine and prep it for its grand re entry into the car.
Then install the shifter and all the other odds and ends I have for her.

I have a question for the masses. Should I relocate the battery to the rear or tuck it in front by the rad support?? Remember I have the fogs and the complete headlight washer system to also install.

And there is also a big chance I'll purchase a bumper pole setup and install that as well. Either way that's what has me stuck for the moment. There's still plenty of stuff to do though.

Also, my apologies for the pics. The car is in a tight spot in my garage and on jack stands. I'll move her soon and get better shots of her all put together.

Can't wait to fire her up!!
4dred6

I would recommend to relocate the battery t the trunk,  For better weight distribution.

I couldn't get the fogs and headlight washer system to fit (one or the other). So i don't reckon you'll be able to get the battery in there as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out when I head back out there.  The back might have to be the best spot for it. I still want to put the battery post in the front.

Oh well, if it can't fit then I guess I'll have a headlight washer system for sale soon.  Rolling Eyes

Please lmk if u do decide to sell the system  Very Happy
