Josh's 35X build!

Hey EFSS,

Just me again, its been a while since ive been on here

you may or may not remember steve's write up on picking up a ef sedan and a ee wagon, well a short version goes;

(as always) Steve linked me to a ebay page of a 35X sedan in 'honey beige'. The problem was not the price but where the car was located. Turned out it was located in Melbourne (~1700kms away and about 20-22hrs drive from where steve and I live)

after speaking with the owner on the phone he informed me that "the car was aquired by a mechanic friend of his when the owner couldnt afford to pay for the bill, for 7 years the car was kept in the work shop and moved around when it was needed to make room for other car, unfortunately it was stolen and recovered then the mechanic offered it to the owner, the owner was going to fix it up for his partner, they broke up and he decided to part with the car"

so after not much convincing i bought that car

Any way Steve and Tom (tom 35xt) was kind enough to pick it up for me and did abit of a write up on it ^^

few pictures from the trip

and this months banner Razz

but yeah atm im in the process of fixing up the small problems with the car, just so i can organise to get a roadworthy certificate and registration

id love 2 hear from you guys ^^ and ill try keep it filled with updates
josh

since steve dropping it off to me, i sadly havent touched it since June/July. I sold my K20 EK and bought a s2000, had some fun with it but i didnt really enjoy it. Seeing the EF all neglected i felt really bad and decided to start workin on it.

since ive started working on it ive fixed the following;

- drivers side drive shaft
- fresh oils
- replaced the broken rear window
- painted the front and rear bumpers
- painted both fenders (still need to get a new passangers side)
- fixed the broken wiring on the passanger side fog light
- replaced  the bulb and hardware on the fog lights
- currently replacing both radiator hoses
- currently replacing the thermostat

stuff left to do;

- rear brake cylinder
- screw down the arm rest
- finish with the rad hoses and thermo stat (waiting on thermostat rubber)
- rear trailing arm bushes
- new exhaust
- legal tyres
- put the front bumper back on
- get roadworthy
- get registration
- start modding!!!!!

haha pic of the busted exhaust that steve and tom drove 1700 kms on

and a quick snap of how stoked i was to get the fog lights working Razz (never had a car which had them and worked!)

and a couple things yet to get on the car

i had a set of work nezarts from the 35xt (15x8+25)

sat pretty nice with a 205x50 tyre

and the plates are just a joke between a few of my friends

C-Rex

Man that was some road trip!! Would have been cool though!

Looking forward to seeing updates the fogs are very nice to get on it!!
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Hell yeah dude.  Glad you finally posted a build thread  Razz   Looking forward to seeing the progess!

Glad to finaly see you workin on her cant wait to see the progress.
josh

thanks every 1 ^^

So today being sunday and my only proper day off from work i decided to try get a few things done, its getting real close to summer here in Aus and its freaking hot, so first thing I did was push the car into the car port, i found out my battery is pretty much dead zzzz.

so after getting out some tools and setting up my radio i decided i wanted to finish the thermo stat and radiator hoses today, re black behind the front bar, replace some fixings on the fog lights (were abit old and rusty) and try get the front bar back on ^^

while i had the housing off i decided to get rid of all the built up crap from the past 21 years Razz

not long after i was done and gave my rad fan abit of a clean up and put it back in  and connected everything else back up

after that i roughed up some of the area which i was wanted to paint and used an acrylic satin finish paint to freshen things up and not to draw anyones attention from behind the bar Razz

after that was dry i test fitted my bar hoping everything was ok, on a side note holy crap i struggled trying to get it on! After a pro tip from Sp33 it all worked out (fog lights need to be positioned where i want them and tightened up but u get the idea)

im really diggin the black and honey beige theme ive got happening atm  ^^

after that i jump started the car and let the coolent circulate, after the fan turned on my temp gauge still hadnt moved Sad i have to say this was really discouraging since i was really hoping that would have fixed the problem, oh well i might try replacing the coolent temo sensor and hopfully that fix's it!

any ways after finding out the thermostat didnt fix my problem i was feeling abit defeated so i figured that would be enough for today ^^ parked her up and wait to  do abit more work on it this week hopfully

EF Sedan Enthusiast

Good stuff.
josh

I havent wasted any time and ordered some BC Racing coilovers, from what ive seen they go very low and with what i wanna do with the car i decided to go with them, prob should have gone with the other model since they had oem style top hats but im sure these will be fine ^^

going to install the fronts prob in the next couple days. and ill remove the rear trailing arm with steve to replace the busted rear trailing arm bush's on sunday

also just need wheels and tyres a muffler and those bushes and i think im ready to get this thing on the road ^^
josh

nothing major but Steve and Tom came round yesterday, wanted to get a few things done which were

- get water temp gauge working

- get front bar back on

- intall coilovers

- intall DA9 lip (make it work etc)

but yeah a friend of mine got  me a da9 lip from the wreckers (he luckily works there)  and steve with his past expereience trimmed the necessary bits to make it fit (thanks! steve!)

i went about and intalled the coilovers (so much damn easier then the s2000) didnt take too long, the BC racing coilovers seem like a real nice coilover, i just left them at the heights at what they were in the box (prob gonna have 2 raise it to get a roadworthy cert)

and the coolent temp sensor was just unpugged from the harness which was a super easy fix!

but yeah some pics with the temp height, and everything back on ^^

hopfully some more progess soon!
josh

im also chasing a hood bra if anyone has a mint one they can sell me ^^
MattyJ

jdmric1 has a hood bra and a aftermarket hood bra for sale

For anyone interested in the journey involved in getting this car, feel free to venture over to here:

Really looking good Josh! Can't wait to get mine back on the road so we can have a proper EF sesh!

Here's a pic Tom took of his and Josh's EF's while we were working on them last sunday:

Pre suspension install!
C-Rex

Id prefer the eye type anyway just something nicer about them..

And just noticed the long plate rear bumpers on both sedans? Do ye have to convery to them in Australia? They would have come with square ones from Japan wouldnt they Confused

Pretty sure all 90-91 models had the longer bumpers gaps in japan.. But dunno about Joshs. Mine has a tiny licence plate gap (have to fold the plate to make it fit)
C-Rex

My 35M is 91 with a square type..
As far as I know all Jap cars are the same size bumper recess
josh

C-Rex wrote:

yeah i thought the same thing, who knows what the deal is, most likely possibiluty is that its been replaced with an AUS rear bar and licence plate area, no matter it still has it ef2 badge and ef2 stamped on the firewall ^^
Grifty

Looking mint!!! Any interior shots? Shame you arent in NSW because i got a rear muffler of a concerto which should be straight bolt on and is only a few months old. I really need the garage space haha

Same thing with my rear bar on my MA3, the number plate fits with no probs. maybe its a sedan thing?
~Sp33~

Sup grifty!
josh

hey everyone, been a while unfortunately Sad

so basically Ive been having huge troubles trying to get this thing on the road, luckily its paperwork wise not the car its self.

In a nut shell this car needs a personal import compliance plate or relevant import papers and compliance documents which the car doesnt have on it nor could i get access to it.

so i got the following fixed on the car in the mean time;

-Replace front brake rotors
-Refurbish rear brakes with new wheels cylinders and shoes
-New LHF brake hose
-Front engine mount
-Rear engine mount
-Timing belt kit with front seals and water pump
-Rear trailing arm bushes
-Both front lower ball joints
-Wiper blades
-new axle back off a concerto (painted it high temp black)
- temp patched a few holes in the exhaust (till its on the road and i can get it replaced)

but yeah I managed to get the previous registration information from the state I bought it from and got a guy coming tomorrow afternoon to hopfully get my a roadworthy cert. so i can get this bad boy on the road ^^

i also took off a heap of the stickers and replaced them with a fair few less yet newer ones ^^

also bought these off yahoo japan, i really couldnt pass them up @ the price they were advertised for, also bought new center caps for them from work and i also bought some project kics wheel nuts for the car too

but yeah i shall let everyone know how i go, ive also got some goodies waiting for this car too ^^

josh

as reqested by grifty

and the last shot of my filthy mess

thanks every one im super stoked about the rwc

but yeah yesterday i got everything sorted with the transport department, insurance etc, drove it to work today ^^

it still needs some little things sorted but it wont be much!

today i also put the nezarts on, lowered it prob another 2-3" from what it was and diy rolled my guards, fronts wernt too bad but i plan on replacing them, the rears im not too happy with unfortuntely, but ill prob take it to my painter in the future to get him 2 clean it up

ill post some pics of the new stance and height 2morrow ^^
josh

i want to lower the front abit more but yeah i wanna get new guards and them rolled properly lol but atm i have so much clearance on the fronts :S

I got a few Q's about your coils if you dont mind me asking.

Are they made for EG6/DC2R or EF9?

Do they go lower then what you currently have them set at?

and where about's did u buy them from?

Thanks
josh

they are ef/crx specific

yeah prob another ~25mm

just jap bud ~$1400 with free shipping

if u buy the other model with no top hat (oem design) no doubt u could go even lower, im tempted to sell these to get the other ones
~Sp33~

Those pics look pretty sweet.
JapJunkie

Nice find to compliment the nice build
josh

thanks for the love!

so in other news i got pulled over by the police to be given a ticket and told that having my car this low isnt acceptable lol

so today i got my exhaust fixed , and got a new cat to axleback system with a resonator

i fixed a few misc things

got tyres and made my height pretty much to aus legal standards and put on my fender mirrors i had tucked away

im pretty happy with how its looking atm, p.s it looks alot higher then in rl, ill get some better photos soon ^^

Grifty

awwwww yeah, looking nice!! I still need to put mine on after some new coils (want to go lower). btw do you know of any aftermarket lock nuts that fit? i cant seem to find any since the bolt hole is small.
89civicracer
