Its time to rebuild have a few quesionsThis wil be probably my first honda engine rebuild, i have rebuilt the motors in both of my trucks, so i am guessing it is going to be similar. Basically what has happened is my wifes 95 civic oil light has came on and when you hit the gas the light goes out, Imgoing to check the oil pressure tomorrow to see if it is in specs but im guessing the oil pump has started to fail, It is a d16z6 auto, so my questions are :
1. I have an A6 block that i have to get honed out to clean the cylinder walls, but it was a running engine that i had bought for a spare and tore apart and cleaned up, so can i use this block with this car or should i find a z6 block?
2. Im going to have to get all new gaskets i know but how do i know what bearings to get as far as mains and cam bearings and what head gasket do i need to run etc... those are the type of things i need to know.
But if the oil pump turns out to be good and all it needs is a pressure switch or something like that then i wont need to do this quite yet, the car only has 140000 miles on it. But on a positive note in 17 miles my little car will have 200000 miles on it,, yyaaaayyyy.

personally i would change the oil pump and pick up, etc for a new genuine honda one, believe or not my B18c1 was purchased at honda used as is that had only under 10,000 miles on it ( back in 95). the integra was a lemon. my brother jumped on rebuild it with JE 8: piston crower rods new oem bearings water pump head gasket rebalanced crack port and polish head etc. motor was fine but after 100 miles still in the knock in breaking it in process it spung a bearing. changed the bearing check the clearance was fine. took it apart got it stroked the motor came back with 84mm piston. found out that the oil pump was a defect. runs fine after that added boost but over heats due to block guard.

Check the oil pump and change it if its bad, thats small miles on that motor, i had 225 thousand on my honda accord dx before i changed the water pump and the oil pump. It' might be just the oil pump needs changing, it's not that hard to change if you have the right one.I bought a toga oil pump, and when i get ready again, i will go with another toga high preformance oil pump(yes it cost, but it's worth it in the long run) Start with looking at the oil pump.

if you feel like rebuilding always go with the z6/y8 head gasket, its MLS and alot more durable than our stock head gaskets, now, since the z6 is over 10 years old, fel-pro and other gasket makers have discontinued them, and refer you to the y8 gasket. When both were around they were differant thicknesses, but both thinner than our stock one (which are a pain to clean off the deck and head when separated) All 3 are interchangeable.
All you bearing will be the same between the motors, and there are no bearings on the camshaft.
The water pump is just a matter of using whatever the block is.
The oil pump is where some real differences come in.
I know the y7 and y8 have the dipstick on the side, by the timing belt, and its tube goes though the oil pump into the pan, if this is true for your z6 then this is the pump you need, but dont get a non-vtec oil pump for use on a v-tec engine.
Hope its just a switch man!!!
