Fender Brace Question.

I was on ebay earlier and i came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JD...7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318#ht_2888wt_0

just wondering if anyone else thinks these are effective as to stiffening the chassis?

it might help just a bit. you plan on buying it? if it works let us know.

I've heard that they apparently reduce wheel hop. I'm not too sure on the benefits.

I've edited your thread title so it's more intuitive.

Cheers.

ah ok thanks. but yeah i was thinkin about buyin it. since it is kinda cheap. just was unsure if it was all that function since i've only seen it on ebay and never really heard of anyone using them.

They do brace a vital part of the front end, I reckon you could probably fab something up that did the job just as well though.

i have a few friends who have put these on there nissan 240s and i have bought some have just been to lazy to put them on my 240 personally

but from what i have heard from my friends is they reduce wheel hop, improve turn in, and make braking noticeably better by reducing the frame from bending under braking pressure.

figure it would be the same concept on a front-wheel drive maybe more benefits on traction and take off?

I've never had problems with wheel hop, or any sort of traction loss. Even with my old civic which was powering half the amount of wheels.

I don't think i need this. .I've seen it on ebay. .Maybe it is more of an SCCA thing or rally thing. . . not sure. . . Also, i don't know anyone who has bought it either. . so. . .if someone is out there. . let us know.
~Sp33~

I really doubt it's necessary for day to day driving. Definitely a race thing.
hondacivicdx

sp33 i think he is thinking about strut bar.

NAW. . talking about that fender brace thing. .
I have all the strut bars and that does make a difference when cornering. . as far as the fender brace thing, i don't think i need it. .

So it's  not needed unless your racing?

These fender braces aren't legal for 99% of the SCCA classes out there.  I've never seen or heard of a Rally car using something like this either.  Rally cars and "super unlimited" type race cars are going to cut a hole thru the firewall and tie the front of the roll cage directly into the shock towers.

These bolt on parts are unlikely to change anything about the way your car handles (but at least they'll lighten your wallet Wink ).  Think about it... wheel hop?  Traction loss?  Come on... soft/old rubber bushings in the front suspension are going to be the first thing to flex/bend/tear and will be your one stop source of wheel hop, nervousness under braking, etc, etc.  Unless you've gone to a full spherical front "bushing" setup, you'll never be able to see if these things are doing anything.  The front frame rails and fender rails on these cars are remarkably stout and really don't need additional reinforcement unless you can do it the "right" way via tying into the roll cage (and even then it's not much gain).

These were all the rage with the 240SX guys several years back... still no evidence that they improved anything.  Seems like it was the good old "Placebo Effect" again.

If you're really interested in improving your suspension/handling/braking/wheel hop/etc look into freshening the Radius Rod bushings, then your front LCA bushings, then your front UCA bushings.  Spherical bearings are "best" but overkill for a street car, ES Black Poly is decent but not great and will wear over time, stock is really good for street and sometime HPDE/AuotX cars.  Another big thing to look at is the rear Trailing Arm bushing (the big one)... these breakdown over time and make the rear feel "nervous" in high speed transitions and under braking.

Those fender braces are so bad ass, all I had to do was look at the ad on eBay and my car dropped 2/10ths of a second off it's average lap times!  Wink

That's nothing, it took 3 seconds off of my quarter mile time!
