Ecu code 20 need advice on fix

First and foremost I'll describe my running issues. The car intermittently has a grounding issue that only happens over 2500rpms. Over that engine speed the tach goes wacky and the engine starts misfiring. The ecu gave me code 20. I found a fix it step by step, but i dont know what exactly im looking for in the process. I checked my number 14 fuse and replaced the under hood fuse box. Also of note my passenger hid does not recieve the proper amount of power as it never fully warms up to bright white(5000k). Here is the screen shot from honda tech. This issue has made the car almost undrivable and i know it cant be hard to fix.

The eld in obd0 models is integrated into the alternator from what I remember.

This is good info. Can anyone verify? There are a coupke clean sedans at the yard i can snatch one from.

had this code when my plug came undone but i didnt have those issues lol mine just died off when battery got weak

My battery is fine. This is a really annoying issue.

I feel like there is a bad ground somewhere or worn wire on the back of the motor. Maybe an ecu issue? Idk.

I would check that alternator...usually the top of the alternator where the ground wire attaches has corrosion from water/dirt and the 22 year old elements. Especially humidity. Check that and if that's not the issue snag as many parts from the yard as possible bro.

I'll check it out. I can't jusr start replacing random parts in hopes it will solve this issue. It has made the car all but undrivable as anything over 2500 rpms and the motor starts missing. I know zilch about car electrics and really need to ponpoint an issue before I throw money at a gremlin.

Check all ur grounds with a test light if thats not the problem check the alternator fuse under the dash..If it blows car wont start(found out the hard way) If not its probably the alternator

I wasnt sayin was ur battery lol was sayin I didnt have any issue's till my battery started dying, code was there but didnt know alt was unplugged which caused my code.  But ya check all bay grounds an cabin grounds an plugs. Il ask a buddy whoworks on them daily what could be

Lol i was busy i didnt mean to be short. I just meant my battery is still strong so charge is still being put back. I'll pop the hood tomorrow. Anyone know where all the grounds are? A list is good enough if you know?

Thermostat housing..valve cover...tranny...battery..  one under the dash on the driver side by the hood latch cable..and one for the dash harness.. also check for blown fuses..open wires or loose ones and use a test light if u have one... and check the distributor wiring that was my problem

What should i look for around the distributor? Ill check my grounds too.

Loose or open wires sometimes the pins get pulled out or loose.. mine was the black and yellow wire I think if it's not any of the fuses or anything simple then ur gonna have to start checking sensors and the ecu..check all the main plugs.the main relay cuz it could be anywhere and not so easy to find..on my crx it was just a ground I took a wire brush to the paint and it worked fine
jmanwantsboost

Huh. I dont really have the knowledge to tear into a wiring harness. :/

Didnt mean to scare u lol...Its probably not anything serious..

Just take it step by step

Check the fuses..Both underdash and under the hood Closely and use a test light or fuse tester if u have one..

Next check all the grounds...Using a test light will make it alot easier..If it glows its a bad ground and u either need to replace it or clean it.. Check the battery ground also

If none of that works then start checking the plugs for open or cut wires loose pins which happens alot..Check all the main engine plugs and stuff like that.. Also not sure if u have this but mine did..on the positive battery terminal there is a plug there that keeps the car from starting if is disconnected  unless u swap terminals like i did..not sure if it gives u a code though..

Check the ecu plugs and make sure there ok..Not wet or burnt or open..Also try changing the ecu..

So yea it can be very easy to fix or very very hard and time consuming...I tried for weeks to fix mine and just said screw it and swapped the chassis harness

On my next day off ill dig in. Its pouring down rain outside now though uggh. I feel like its an easy fix though. I have a spare ecu i can try as well
jmanwantsboost

I've narrowed it down. The ground out is drawing power from the passenger light. It's gotta be something under the hood. But i cant see any visible broken wires at connection points. The draw happens when the car is running and when it isnt. Still stumped but im sure the draw is causing the engine to act up. Althouh today i have been able to go over 2500 rpms but the passenger light stays dim. The miss comes and goes. I know nothing about wiring or where to start. I'm really pissed that this isnt sonething i can't  figure out.

If u look by the winshield wiper bottle theres a little white box with a bunch of black wires on the bottom and a metal tab at the top bolted to the frame..Those r all grounds so try there

Awesome thats a start. And i swapped in my extra ecu yesterday as well. Wires down there look good.

Im sure u will figure it out..just takes sum time

So i swapped the ecu and cleaned and tightened my vc and thermostat grounds. Seems to be working, but the issue wasnt happening when i did so we shall see. Still gotta find tge draw on my headlight.
