djblingbling1's DD ED/EF Sedan Build

I kinda started talking about my build in my intro but I wanted to make a proper thread.

1990 DX Sedan, traded my old CRX Si for it after the tranny cracked.

Ill be lacking pics for now but will try and get some soon.

The car was bone stock, pretty clean with a few dings here and there.

I immediately dropped it on Koni Yellows with generic springs to hold me over suspension wise, and threw my old tow hook off the CRX on.

Had to do a lot of cleaning, replace some bulbs, and was GTG.

I just installed poly shift bushings, NGK plug wires, and tracked down the stereo trim.

I just ordered this:

and a MOMO hub off a member here!

The car had a Integra console (ebrake to below stereo) That I hated and pulled, so I am trying to track down a stock one, and then my interior will be done aside from a few small things.

I have a Yakima rack too with Q9 clips in the mail so I can mount it up...still trying to find a used kayak and mounts for one since ive always wanted one.

Like I said pics soon, I know a build without pics kinda sucks!

Thanks for reading![/img]

^^^^agreed!!!!! Very Happy  this sounds amazing Shocked

Ok question for you guys.

The Koni Yellwos I got with the 88 LCA's for my car are for a 89-91. I also have the stock 88 shocks....

DO I go Koni's and keep the 89-91 and track down si LCA's so I can rear sway it, or go 88 LCA and run stock shocks?

Ive heard the 88 LCA's are supiorior so I dont know if the trade off is worth it.

Thoughts?
tenkaracole

Im not sure what your asking? but you can run aftermarket coilovers with stock shocks if thats what your asking? Confused

Are the konis going to do more for me or the 88 LCA's?

I have heard 88 LCA's are the best, plus they are from an Si so they give me the ability to add a rear sway.

I tried the Konis tonight and they are for a freaking integra and wont work, so im proably going to swap the 88 LCA's over.

The 88 lca's are a little lighter and stronger but limit your shock choices.
djblingbling1

Little update, AND some pics!

One of my Konis blew...

I might look into replacing it, although the other 3 would be used, seems it would be stupid to have one new and three used but maybe it wouldnt matter.

On another note it means I can use the 88 setup...figure why the hell not!

Getting some paint on them to make them look new...I cant figure out which way they go though, ill have to google a pic.

And I got the rack on:

nice updates, not a fan of racks myself, but the car is looking good sir.
I still think you should give me those wheels.lol  Wink

having one new shock/strut made a difference with me (wasnt on a honda though). I hydroplaned my firebird and hit a curb with the left front and blew the strut, I thought the same thing, just replace what is broken. after i did that when i would go over dips in the road, my car didnt seem to bounce evenly. after about a week, i changed the other 3 and it went away. Different cars may be different, that is just my experience doing that.
djblingbling1

Im thinking ill swap to the 88 setup, down the road buy 2 new koni's for the back so they are even. I have two used konis up front so no need to mess with those.

Luckily the 88 LCA's are from an SI so I can run a rear sway....otherwise I wouldn't bother.

According to UPS and USPS my hub will be here tommorow and my new NRG on friday, so by friday night hopfully ill have some interior pics.

sweetness. once i get my sedan road worthy im buying a nrg hub and a grip royal wood wheel. im looking forward to your pics of the nrg hub installed.

Actaully I went with a MOMO hub instead of the NRG...the NRG looked like it would only work with a QD which to me is more of a bling factor thing than a safety mechanism so I opted to save a bit of money.

loving the updates, hate the rack

Lookin good my man sucks about the shock.  As for the 88 arms they should be marked left and right the open side go's down and the end its hanging from bolts to the chassis and the other end go's to the trailing arm.

Im honestly not loving it either....I just bought clips for it but I might flip em and buy the clips and just put the rack on my wifes car. I want to keep it so I can justify buying a kayak.

If not im SURE I can make a profit throwing the whole setup on CL.
cleanRENO90

Those wheels would look killer with a mirror polish!

Any how to's?

Im assuming just a good metal polish on a drill pad?
~Sp33~

Start with sand paper, then work up your grits slowly until you get to about 2,000. Then move to a metal polish.
EF4lyf3

wet sand I involved am I right?
djblingbling1

Cool, might be a good summer project for me. The wheels are kinda growing on me, although I still wouldn't mind some white HX's or polished 92's.

I fixed my window seal yesterday...no more wind whistle, and did some wd-40 engine bay detailing. I need to order a k&nfor the stock intake, now that I removed the snorkel.

I love the look of the stock intake but really its pulling air from the wheel well through a k&n...ive done that on my last 2 hondas and its way clean compared to a short ram which looks wack with the battery location IMO.

Edit:

Got this in the mail today!

djblingbling1

Love it!

A. I was anticipating running into issues with my turn signal switch, and the MOMO hub worked perfectly as far as self canceling.

B. Horn wired up no problem

C. The wheel is awesome...just a tad smaller than stock, but not too small, smooth, and awesome finish.

Im worried about long term, use with the wood, but only time will tell...hopfully no cracking oir anything, ill just be gentle as its only a DD and not a track car.

looks sick  Twisted Evil
89 LX SOHC ZC

I like it.
djblingbling1

I need pics but here is whats new:

3" shifter extension (going from a CRX where you sit low, the shifter felt like a reach on the civic....now its perfect...my shift times have been cut way down if I try...in general its just more comfortable for DD)

I made a 2" wooden ball shift knob...its ok, but ill probably buy a type R looking one, or a plain polished ball knob that's slightly weighted.

Tonight im picking up a generic header, as well as a catback to the rear axle...that will let me just weld that on, and then go with a custom muffler...still trying to decide on that.

I wish I had kept the Thermal R&D off my CRX, but oh well.

After I finish repairing my interior, ill start gathering up the bits to get some bondo work done this summer. I may not be able to perfectly match paint but it will look better than little dings.

Also im on the lookout for a MPFI swap...then ill be able to throw on a 3pt strut bar...

my big goal with this car is a good solid suspension setup. The koni yellwos up front are killer...for the rear, im ok with stock, and when they blow ill get an OEM replacement of some sort..tokicos or something...but the ebay springs I have now sucks......I loved the s techs on my old civic, and for the money ill probably go that routre as I dont care for adjustable springs.

Oh and my 88 setup was a bust...the shocks I got where blown...so im going to get blox polished rear lca's so I can put a sway bar on..proably will get the ST kit.
djblingbling1

Way not worth it, but here yah go:

Literally just caused busted bolts and bloody knuckles...and it sounds exactly the same as stock. Shocked

Its a cleaner look though, and i dumped a ton of brackets and crap I didnt need now so thats good.

Here is the pipe I got with the muffler since it was a CL special:

I kinda debated bolting it up like that just for a laugh...aside from being ear bleeding rice burning loud...would it damage the engine at all?

It basically leads up to right after the stock resonator, so it would be easy to splice in since its slightly larger piping, and has some stainless in it.

Thoughts?

I was thinking try it like this so I can pull py stock exhaust and cut it, and get a nice muffler welded up, then splice the two together.
EF4lyf3

Its definitely going to be loud. I believe that goes where the catalytic converter goes though. Open header for the win!. At the moment im open header lol and no it will not damage your engine, just yours and everyone else's ears lol. Seal up your shifter boot area though because exhaust WILL leak into the cab.
4dred6

^agreed
djblingbling1

Haven't messed with the exhaust yet...

Buuuuut, last second trade. Traded my roof rack for these Enkei 92's with brand new Toyo Eclipse tires. They need a bit of repainting and have a tiny bit of road rash, but I made out good.

My roof rack I had $160 into, these with the new tires are worth way more, and my car handles so much better.

EF4lyf3

YUMM
4dred6

Looks good man. Love the color combo
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Smart trade.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Sweet trade man.
djblingbling1

Thanks guys...today, hopfully, im going to take care of some of the rash on the lip, and re-polish them.

Once the weather gets a bit warmer ill actually strip the old crap paint off and repaint the gold.
4dred6

nice
HondaJunkie

You made out like a bandit on those rims lol.
djblingbling1

Anyone have an idea of what it might cost to have the tires pulled off the wheels, get them soda blasted, rash fixed, and a fresh powder coat?

The rash is proving to be really hard to get even, and the paint is so damn caked on it needs to be blasted, since im gonna rack up the bill just on aircraft stripper.
HondaJunkie

Around here it's about $75 a rim for a sand blast and powder coat of a standard color.
EF4lyf3

Go to harbor freight. Buy a soda blaster for 50 bux, a bag of sand/beads and do that shit yourself lol. Hella money saved for life. The go to Walmart or a cheap tire shop and them take the wheels off for 10 bux and then spend 75 a wheel to powder coat. That's a cool 300 saved for the blast.
stormdrop

nice trade. since you got new wheels, i think it is time you give me your old ones. lol  Very Happy
