car wont start

d15b2 engine rebuild in 88 honda. The car wouldn't start about a month ago. I checked the spark, put in a new battery, fuel pump primes, ground wires are good, I pulled the starter because it looked like it was engaged when it shouldn't be. but now after the car was cranking literary yesterday, I go to turn the crank manually and it will not budge!!!

Need help!!

I asked a friend and came up with same answer, he suggest's, pulling belt as well and see if u can rotate crank. that's pretty much only way ur gonna fin out if its top end problem or bottom end, its that or pulling head which I still have to remove belt. how long were u cranking it for yesterday??
Scrappersmum

30mins max, I don't even think for that long. We only did it to test the main relay plug, and battery.
Scrappersmum

Do I need to pull the timing belt or accessory belts? or both?
89CivicSi

how long? and how much time between each crank? that could have seized it im afraid.
Scrappersmum

about 10 times, 5 second burst.
89CivicSi

u can pull them all if u want but just pop the belt off cam gear and see if u can rotate crank, and like stated if it is the hg and water got mixed in anywhere those cranking sessions probably froze it. let me know what happens when u remove the belt.
Scrappersmum

okay I will do that. thank I will keep you updated.
89CivicSi

Alright but Ef4lyf3 made a good point, if it was the cam the crank would have budged a lil usin a breaker bar, cuz the belt would have flexed a lil. So hate to say it, but ur block is probably toast.

The car wasn't in gear while you were trying to rotate the crank was it?

Also, topic moved.

No the car was in park with the emergency break on.
tenkaracole

Im afraid it HAS to be in neutral! im almost possitive. Confused

Thank you guys for all the help you have given me with scrappy, but the crank shaft is unfortunately broken. I have come to terms that I will have to buy a whole new motor for scrappy. The engine has already been messed with once, so i can't go in there twice and expect a long term result. Any suggestions for a motor model for my 88 ef honda? or where I can find a good quality motor, for a good price?
89CivicSi

Id suggest a d16a6, its a good strong motor, an it all depends where u go.
tenkaracole

^^agreed! they are common, cheap, and makes a fairly quick little DD! Very Happy

Where abouts do you stay? There are a lot of import companies that will ship motors but if one is in your state or city i suggest just driving to pick it up. D16a6 is a good start. But if your going to do all that work I say you just go right to single cam vtec, maybe d15b or d16y8. That would be good for DD and little pulls here and there. Also, maybe you should keep that messed up motor, take it apart piece by piece and keep everything labeled and organized and get to know the inner workings of these motors. I promise you will have a clearer view of how things effect each other in different situations. Then you will see the problem that arose. Rebuild the current motor while driving the other one so you have a back up motor if ever anything were to happen. I guarantee this will shed some new light and love for these cars and motors. Will also separate you from street tuner to enthusiast.

^^nice! I agree, hadnt thought about that! and what is the difference between the D15B you mentioon and a D15B2 that comes stock? Confused

I am curious to know the difference of a d16y8, and a d16z6?
89CivicSi

Y8 is obd2, has larger intake mani, better combustion chambers, an higher stock cr
Z6 is obd1 has ok mani, idk on chambers an people tend to chose cuz its already obd1 an more found in parts yard than y8. I personally am usin a y8 head an mani in my mini me build but I'm also goin high cr an turbo.
Scrappersmum

was the mini me hard to do?
89CivicSi

Not if u have a d16 block, I'm usin the d15 block with y8 head an mani. So I gotta use diff parts from diff vehicles(dizzy, timing belt, belt tensioner, ecu, ect) but its not all that hard, lil wiring for dizzy, vtec, mpfi,an the ecu that's bout it besides a tune. Always wanna tune it, especially when upgrading internals or usin diff blocks and heads together.
89CivicSi

Mine would actually be called a frankenstien, since I'm havin to source so many parts from other cars. Where as the mini me would be swappin vtec head onto non vtec block an usin a vtec ecu

I laughed when I saw your post, because after hearing all the crap that's going on with scrappy my bf made this picture for me; http://s1331.photobucket.com/user...82a15409.png.html?sort=3&o=11 At the time I didn't find it to funny. now it's alittle funny. Probly after scrappy is running, it will just be halarious.....but that's a BIG maybe. lol
89CivicSi

Lol
Scrappersmum

Do you know anyone trying to sell their motor, or possibly their tail lights? Mine are working, but I can see time has had its way with them.
89CivicSi

just clean them unless their cracked and broke, ask anyone these can be brought back from the dead if aint broke. and as motor wise, idk lol
tenkaracole

for motors check Craigslist.org or post in the for sale section!

Do some searching for a Japanese engine importer in your area the engines usually have less than 50.000 miles on them and have some kind of warranties on them.
