Best strut bars

Getting ready to get my upper  strut bar, and ive haven't decided
which to buy, Ok lets say price range, i dont just want looks, but i want preformance Ok i will say the price range from $90.00 to $130.00 i am looking at. So Guys what brand do you suggest and why.I went on e-bay, but they have a lot of cheep stuff, i guess that's just for looks, then i talk to the guy at Andy's auto he told me most low end products are for looks when it comes to strut towers.Go for something around $80.00 to start off with and go up
from there in price, then you get something that will work like it is
set up to do and it will not break over the course of six months.
So help me out here???  In about the next two weeks i will be making a choice of where to buy one from and what brand name

I USE MEGAN RACING FOR YEARS NOW THEY WORK GOOD
AN LOOK GOOD YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM OUT

Clipse

Get one that does not have heim links at the connection points, they are stronger.  But if you DO get heim linked bars, get steel, not aluminum.  Aluminum is not as strong as steel and will warp and bend.

Type-S EF

X2 but lower case from me,  The rear upper's end brackets were kinda flimsy, so i made some more braces.  going to make new ends for them later on, but otherwise they are quite stiff for their weight.  Skunk2, paswordJDM, and Mugen are definitely the best ones out there, and go 3 point for the front upper if you can.  But for cost, i went megan.  They are good enough they make a difference, but were cheep.  There is room for improvement.
hondacivicdx

Ok megan states it's made from 6061 billet aluminum. It's 1.75 wide
and0.75 thick. So i thought you said stay away from aluminum? Now on megan web page there $69.95, and on Andy's Auto sport
there $46.78 each. Skunk2 uses the same:AL6061T6 and it sells for
$159.73 on Andy's Auto.Manchester Motorsport has  Tenzo for $79.95

Megan is good. . Neuspeed is what i have and i have had no issues with. . then if you really want to get fancy. . get Cusco. .
hondacivicdx

i think i have narrowed it down to megan and cusco, i can get a cusco st model for $123.50  and its made out of steel
Clipse

megan makes such shitty products!
hondacivicdx

So your saying Cusco is the way to go not megan, Is that why there $54.00 most places, what about D.C SPORT?
~Sp33~

Im going to say that upper strut braces do nothing to handling, so buy a cheap one because it's going to be for show anyway.
hondacivicdx

buy a cheep upper and spend more money for the rear and lower
front?
~Sp33~

That's what i reckon.
hondacivicdx

cool, i will just go on e-bay and get a $32.00 one, or something under $80.00 and save my money for the rear one and spend it there. Right now when i drive around 70mph, and i get into a curve i notice the rear trying to slide, First of all i know ive got used 14" tires for now why because it does not make since to spend a lot right now when latter i will be putting 15" rims and tires on it so i don't think i should buy new 14"tires for now??? Second i don't know???, MABEY I NEED TO WAIT ON THE FRONT BUMPER AND GET
A GOOD SWAY BAR???  Clips, i saw that bar they want $243.00 for it.

Hmm, i think you should look into how a sway bar will actually effect your setup.

From what you've described, you should be looking into getting a larger lower front sway bar to increase understeer (Which is rarely the case in a front drive car with a decent sized wheel base).

Fitting a rear lower sway bar will increase the cars tendency to 'slide out' in corners. Buying an oversized sway bar will decrease the effectiveness of the independent suspension also.

Definitely look into the effects before purchasing anything.
hondacivicdx

Ok i will look into getting a larger front sway bar. (what about
Progress sway bar)22mm $170.00 on Andy's auto sport do you think this will do. So a upper strut bar is for looks, and the bottom
sway bar will affect your suspension, so i need to get a front sway
bar and wait on the rear sway bar. and don't get the strut bar.
Ok as of today i won a Megan upper strut bar for $40.00 and $15.00 shipping so this will go on the top, i will research more on the lower,
hondacivicdx

OK SP i think i will look into bigger tires before a lower sway bar.
~Sp33~

Definitely. Once you've purchased a set of rims that your happy with, get a tire with a low profile and descent width, it does wonders for your handling.
hondacivicdx

Sp i think i am finally understanding what you mean, the wider low
profile tires will help. Thanks SP I will wait for the sway bar and strut
bar. After i get the rims, tires then i will see what happens?
~Sp33~

After tires, you should focus on your suspension. Then sway/strut bars.
hondacivicdx

Ok what size rims do you think i was looking at 15", but the guys
at maxspeed said get 17" you will be happy, i was thinking about the price of tires?? well what do you think

You think i could get a wide 17" rim on there and still work good?
The ones now are 195/65/14
lxKruzer

17's! but also there are many ....spreadsheets?...out there or sumthen to that nature that will let you plug in your car specs, then spit out the different wheel and tire sizes that can fit. the only one i have currently is for 4x4 off road but im sure there are some out there. dont go big wheels tho if you intend track. the tire sidewalls matter when it comes to fast turns....i reckon.

The largest i would probably put on my sedan is a set of 15"s. Though 17"s are going to fill the gap better if your not planning on lowering the car any time soon.
89civicracer

16's are also good. . depends on what you are going for. I would never do 17's especially if you lower the car and do not plan on having people in the back. I think you will need to roll your fenders also. . Don't get me wrong, people have done it. . . . but i personally do not like them. . they just look out of place on the car. . Stick to 15" or 16's. . that is my suggestion!  Wink
hondacivicdx

Ok i think because of what i been seeing 15" or 16" will do fine,
The rims that i want is cheeper  15x6.5 ICW RB1 Machined / Black FWD

 $99.00 $396.00 $444.00 with tax.  16x7 ICW RB1 Machined / Black FWD

 $81.00 $324.00 $374.00 with tax
~Sp33~

Is this it?

hondacivicdx

thats one of them, what do you think i think that will set off my car
i am thinking of painting it yellow and light blue to go along with my racing sets.
~Sp33~

They look ok, i'd keep them that grey colour though. Usually you want your wheels to contrast, not match.
hondacivicdx

Back to the strut bar guys ive just got my strut bar put on,Well i bought that Megan strut bar  off ebay, and it did not fit,But thanks to Maxspeed, TJ had a three way strut bar already in the shop, so we did a swap and it fit like hand in glove, because ive got that dual
intake on instead of the multi one, but latter were going to change that. But for now i am happy with the sway bar. next project will be
the front bumper  Clips it looks like the one you posted for me.
~Sp33~

The 3 point ones are good.
hondacivicdx

Also i got some wider rear tires so its riding better, but after next
saturday i will have my camera so i can take photo's
hondacivicdx

Ok as of today i am the owner of a set of 19"rims/kumo directional
tires for a total price of $200.00  Photos will come soon, man progress is being made(yes)  I was not expecting this but all thanks to maxspeed, they look good
~Sp33~

....19"s?.....

You'll never be able to lower it without chewing out your fenders. You might even have to raise it. How lame.
hondacivicdx

you will see as soon as i take some photos i think i got around 2 inches to play with. But i need to get an allinement.
hondacivicdx

sorry tried to download photos of my rims but it's not working, any
help? on how to
hondacivicdx

Ok i think ive got it let's see, This is before

And  this is with my 18" rims

So what do you think, only the rims, i am making some progress,
i still got to get photos of my motor and the headers, and the short
ram air intake
ThurmanMerman

Post a bigger photo. You can't tell shit in that photo.
hondacivicdx

true but how do i do that
hondacivicdx

ok here's another try, had to use mircosoft paint, so what do you think, ok latter i will try to get a  better shot of the rims
ThurmanMerman

Looks alright. Would look better if you bought my suspension! Very Happy
hondacivicdx

AS you can see i still have room, but for now that will do because next step is the front bumper., but if i were buying your suspension
set up what would i be looking at? total cost?
~Sp33~

from 200$ to 2000$.

Doesn't look like your going to be able to lower it much, those wheels will chew your fenders.
ME-B-N-ME

Or fenders will chew away at your tires..

I cant say I dont like big rims on cars, *coughCapriceon22's*

But they have never appealed to me on our year Civics.. maybe on some of the other civics. but not EF's 16's are ok but ot has to be the right kinda wheel. But if you liek it more power to you
hondacivicdx

Ok if i got the tokico suspension set up (mabey blue) how much do you think i could lower it, or would coilover work better?
~Sp33~

By the looks of your pictures, you only have about 1" before your giant wheels will start rubbing on your fenders during corners.
hondacivicdx

Yea, you might be right, so you think some coilovers would do?
~Sp33~

Yeah should do.

Is the area around where your door handle used to be cracking?
hondacivicdx

Yes, but maxspeed said that's because the guy who had the car before
me did not put the right type of plate behind where the door handle was. But we are going to fix this before we finish painting
my car which should be by the end of june or the middle of july.
