Ballade DOHC

OK, let me give you some history, I have known Icarus since junior sckool. And when he started with his first Honda project, he has been trying to show me the light.. well to make a long story short. This last weekend I sold my Golf MK2 1800 project, and Icarus found me a Honda Ballade DOHC, so i saw the light... Laughing

Well here are the current pics of the car still trying to figger out was this Ballade a SOHC being converted to a DOHC or was it a DOCH all the long.

Any way here are the Pic's:

paulhutchi

My First Goal

I would like to get the Ballade running and on the road.

What still is needed to be done:
- She needs a Disy
- Redo the CV's
- Tyers and a rim
- battrey
- Lots of Body work...

Once that is done then I can put her through Road Worthy and Licencing, Then I can clean her up.

Don't all Ballade Honda Ballade DOHC have a bump on the hood?

That's correct.

Is that the valve cover your Ballades came with? It's the same as the Rover 416's valve cover. Popular swap for those that can find them!
paulhutchi

As far as I can see, with the paper work that the car came with, I'v got a import engine from Japan, in at the mo.

Well I'm keen to fix her up so she looks and feels like a DOCH that just came out of the factory, with some small factory looking mods...

I'll post updates as I work, I was working on the electric windows last night... the dude that had this poor car before me painted the windows closed. As far as I can see to stop the car rusting.

More Updates

Right, this weekend i was able to get most of the electric windows to work, the front passanger is still an issue.

It gose down but not up, i have chexk the swith and the motor and that works, when i change the current that gose to the motor and puch down on the button i am able to make the window go up, so i need to find where that wire's go and find out what is wrong there.

umm, ya my dad came a round and helped me with some on the body work on the roof, here are the pics for that.

I know we could of done a better job and taken out the back window but i am going to do that latter, I am just trying to get the car licnced and on my name.

k, what elce, I put the SOHC induction OEM kit back in, i will need to upgrade this soon, and the person before me made some holes in the filter box, what a freak... ill have to fix that soon as well.

So ya that was my updete to this weekend.. rocking

Progress is progress!

Money is running a bit slow so I am trying to do what I can with what i have, i have a air con and a power steering pump that i can install, I just need to do my research well to find out how they fit and run.

I took some pic's as ref.

Air Con pump

Power Steering pump

Power Steering pump bracket - P02

I hope this is the right bracket for my engine

Here are pic where the power steering should go.

The power steering and the air con pump's go on the right side of the exhaust manifold here's a pic.

Here is the latest pic of my engine bay, I still have a lot of cleaning to do.

Your have done well Steve.

I have been doing some Research on my engine to find out what plan can I make, to get a Distributor working on her.

So far I can get a SH4 1.6i SOHC Distributor for R750 and cut off the one ear. Remember I have a SOHC body with a DOHC engine.

Here is the spec of my engine:

Does the bumper pole still work?!  Very Happy
paulhutchi

Yip, the pole works, the front bumper needs some work...

This is going to become my Daly and the EF is going to be my Daly/track.

got it on the weekend.
paulhutchi

I am also planning to put the mags that are on the back of the Accord on the EF.
paulhutchi

!!Good news!!

This last weekend was rocking I was able to do a lot on my projects, i got the Accord running and a bacillary got a new face for the EF...

Icarus got his self a new set of head lights the one with two sections "separate bright's" and I'm going to buy his old headlights.

So this is what was done, put on a new lip and a new chrome strip with Anton's old lights... I'll post photos tonight when I get home.

O yes the EF didn't have a fuel cap, well its got one now...

paulhutchi

I really feel that this is the best forum ever... thanks dude's...
paulhutchi

Sorry for not updating my EF project log, I have been working on my accord pretty hecticly, if I get the accord running well, then I can sell my Toyota, then I wont have a car payment, and then I'll have more cash to work on my project... ye man...

I managed to get a cover for my steering column, so that is also sorted, so the EF is still moving on just slowly....

I can't wait for the day I only own Honda's, I have come to highly dig and respect them.
~Sp33~

What's to do on the Accord?
paulhutchi

~Sp33~ wrote:

Shot for asking, I have been basicly sleeping in the engine bay of the accord...

When i got the accord it was not starting, found there was fuses missing sorted that and found that the fuel pump rusted up in side the tank... not good, changed the fuel pump, also the accord did not have a fuel filter, sorted that and she started, but with a bad tap-it noise, set them cleaned the inside of the head, put her back together, and she didn't start any more, found a intermittent dead short from the solenoid, remember i can't get parts for this car in R.S.A so everything i have done is Mods and part that i can get...

OK, back to the story...  and at the same time the accord started over fuelling, socking the plugs... found out that it could be the thermal censer in the head that is telling the ECU that the car is really could, and that could be the resound for the car over fuelling, then i went to see a dude that Icarus knows at Honda cape town, and he informed me that he dose not think that's the issue, so i clean that censer and i feel there was water bridging the points on the censer giving a incorrect reading for the ECU...

Aaaaah dude, the story goes on, I Need to get this accord running soon, so I can start racing again...

Hoping to start her again this week-end then put the car in my name, then i will be back on the EF with GREAT FORCE...
~Sp33~

Could it be that the plugs aren't sparking? Maybe that's why your plugs are wet.

shot O, checked the flow of spark, and in my sleepy state on one morning I felt it...

I have just put in new plug, just need to put in a solenoid and I should be rocking... shot O
PoisoN

Yo Paul. Check the map sensor  Exclamation  I had a very simliar issue on my car. Make sure the are no leaks. I also have a spare map sensor if you wanna test (from a dohc).

need a popup/prelude map sensor to test...

its mounted in the black box not on the TB like most honda's from 88 - 2000

Wink
~Sp33~

Usually the actual sensor is fine, it's just the vacuum line running to it which needs replacing.
Icarus

~Sp33~ wrote:

thats fine too

I think the map sensor is fine as well

The problem seems to be the water temp sensor, its thinks the car is sitting in ice so is enriching the fuel for a super cold start
