ALARm System (auto start)

Whats up everyone!

~This goes for everyone with five speeds~

I was just wondering how many of you with alarms (in a 5 spd) have the auto start feature hooked up in their cars and how do
you like it?

I just installed my 2 way paging alarm and that was the only feature i didnt hook up (yet)  and also the switch for my ebrake is bad (my new lx/si cluster indicate it as always being up grrr) gotta repalce that...

but i just wanted some opinions from others who have that feature in there cars!

thanks

its dangerous, it would take quite an array of switches to make sure it was not in gear.

There are laws prohibiting shops from doing this because it requires deactivation of the clutch safety switch, even though 88 model year cars don't have one.

my homie did it to his hatch lol

he kept showing it off untill one day he was changing the timing belt and he pushed the button on accident in his pocket and it grabs his hand lol he is ok and all but that's what he gets

LOL so i guess ill leave it un hooked for now and just  worry about adding a central locking and power windows and a sunroof!

it was installed on the 1st 4 door I bought.  Was at an ex friends house (yes no longer a friend) with my gf, she was in the car which the keys were in the ignition so I could have the radio on.  We were standing in between my car and his Corolla, she pulled out the keys, put them in her pocket and her tight jeans activated the RS which I was in no knowledge it was hooked up.

Well the car was in gear, I moved out of the way, but the car hit him, and continued trying to start until I finally deactivated it and pushed the car back to free his leg.  He fractured his leg and was on the verge of suing me... I stopped talking to him after I found that out knowing a true friend wouldn't sue for an accident like that, I had no knowledge of the RS system, I was told it was only an alarm.  I disconnected it later that night.

I had it installed on my Suzuki Sidekick, but on that car, I added a sensor so that the car knew when it was in neutral, and when it was in gear.  This way it would not start in gear, because I am the type that is in the habit of always leaving the car in gear in case of an e-brake failure (I live on an incline and park on the street sometimes)

Now with my other alarm, it specifically states that it is made for AUTO transmissions ONLY.  ALTHOUGH, it has a turbo timer feature which the car must have the e-brake on for it to work... You would also need to have left the car in neutral if the car is stick for it to work... NOW this DOES NOT stop someone else from messing with the shifter from the last time you parked and putting it in gear and you go and RS the car and it starts lunging forward or backward.

There are systems that are made for 5 speed transmissions, but NOTHING will ever work as well as the system that I had set up in my Sidekick IMO.

wow that messed up! but what was the sensor you used?

me i live in a relativity flat area so I never leave my in gear i have a bad habit of just jumping in my car and starting it and i dont let anyone drive my civic anymore (unless ive driven their car lol a trust thing lol)  my dad was driving my "Mazda" Probe (yes i know it was a ford i detest fords lol) without my knowledge and I was leaving for school when i Jumped in and started it up and it nearly rear ended my moms brand new car... good thing the 90 gallon plastic garbage can was there or it would have been 10x worse and to top it off we all were on the same insurance so try explaining that to the insurance company... after that ive been super anal about remembering were i leave my seat and if the cars in gear and the ebrake is up   and hiding my key lol

It was a sensor that I tied in to create an open circuit when in gear, but close the circuit when in neutral, which I tied into the e brake sensor and hood pin sensor for the alarm with relays and diodes, which in turn the car would not start unless e-brake was up, hood was closed, and car was in neutral.  Any one of those things not being right would create a no start situation.

I'm doing an alarm install on my 4 door right now, and am not hooking up the RS system just because I am doing the install a certain way where I do not want MORE wires hooked up than what are already being hooked up.  For me, there is no real reason to have the RS system on this car.  It's only benefit is for warming the car up prior to leaving somewhere when it is cold.
