89 LX SOHC ZC's DD project

Well I finally decided to start a project log on this thing after being on here for almost two years call me lazy. I bought the car three years ago after my 2006 SI got repoed for $1000 in sad shape it was missing a lot of crap. The exaust was held on with wire the airbox lid was just sitting on the throttlebody and it had some stupid looking hubcaps on it that I dident even let make it to my house. (took them off at my sisters and left them there) The only thing it really had going for it was the single cam zc and I dident even know it was in there until much later. I spent weeks cleanig and going to the junk yard looking for parts to hold it together until I could get on my feet and start the real work the fun work.

This is the only pic I have of the car right after getting it already started cleaning it up.

Cleaned engine bay and painted valve cover and air box.

my konig b-bombs

Godspeed project type ss coilovers and skunk 2 camber arms.

My ebay wheel

Just did a disk brake conversion a while back I only paid $100 for.

so this is what she looks like now.

I guess ill leave it there for now I have some things im working on and show some pics of that later.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Sorry guys dont know what happen here it looked good when I hit preview and this is how it turned out.
~Sp33~

Envious of how clean your engine bay is.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Lookin good bud.
alarm guru

how do those godspeeds ride? i actually do want a set
BLKEF4DR

x2
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks for comments guys makes all the work worth while. As for the godspeeds ive heard some critasizem about them but I really like them for what I use the car for they can be a little harsh somtimes but what lowerd car isn't.
89civicracer

i need the rear disk conversion for $100
89 LX SOHC ZC

yeah got real lucky on that deal my neighbors Da got stolen and totaled so he went and got it from impound to swap parts to another shell and dident have the money so he parted it out.
89ef2

That's pretty cheap... I paid 75 for the rear disk and proportion valve for 75 but still need a master cylinder and cables.... hopefullly all together won't pay more than 150
89 LX SOHC ZC

Finaly after three years of surching the local junk yards I found a good fender that matches my car.

And I painted my resistor box to go with my z6 manifold that im hoping to swap in soon.

EF Sedan Enthusiast

89 LX SOHC ZC

Lucky me I picked up a pm6 ecu for my injection swap a while back and just got a buddy of mine with a crx si to hook it up to his and it dident work happy days. Crying or Very sad
88browncow

ooohhh thats pretty!
Dolie ED3

love your car bro! Cool you already have the multi point swapp in?
the konig wheels and godspeed coilovers, rear disc brakes are really nice.love it!only  wooden oldskool steering wheel will look so good on your car i think  Wink
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks for the kind comments Dolie, no I havent done my multi point swap yet still trying to get all the parts together I still need a dizzy,si harness, support bracket and pm6 ecu since the one I bougt is no good im hoping to do it soon.
Dolie ED3

Yeah, keep it updateted.im also intressted to do a multi point swap Smile want a little bit more power on the sedan.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Well I called the guy I bought my pm6 ecu from and told him it was no good and he happend to have another one and he swaped with me so im hoping for better luck with ecu #2. I also picked up a aem cold air intake for my swap for 50 bucks.
Proper282

Aem for 50 is pretty sweet. I have been seeing "c.a.r.b." Legal intakes on ebay for about $55 but i am very leary of them for that price. Plan on fabbing my own from some 3" mandrel bend here soon.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Ive seen the ones on ebay and they never offer them for the si or ex and im also a little leare of the $55 price for a c.a.r.b leagal intake.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Well I finally got to check ecu #2 and it works but it shows a check engine light so im starting to get really frustrated with this swap I just keep telling myself it will be worth it.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Well Im so pissed off right now I could kill someone. I go to have lunch with my wife and some LOW LIFE PIECE OF SHIT!!! steals my sedan while im gone took the cops two hours to come take a report happy times.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

You're kidding!!!!!!  Damn dude, I'm really sorry to hear this.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks Jon im devistated I was gone 30 minutes and all injection swap parts were in the trunk and I know that was a stupid place for them.
Dolie ED3

No!!!damn!!a low life stole your sedan,i feel with you bro.
It,s not the first time i hear that on efcs.
It happens a lot in the states i guess.
Hope that it only was for a joy ride and that they find it back.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

California is the worst for stolen EF's.  That's 90% of the reason I didn't try to buy one while I was living there cause it would have been sitting bait in our apartment garage complex.

Hopefully they find it, in tact but with no gas in the tank.  If I was you, I'd start looking on Craigslist for your parts.  Meet up with the dude and kick his ass (assuming it's the same person or knows the same person).
Proper282

No f%ckin way! This is horrible... Fuck!n scum out here that don't want to work for what they got. Makes me sick. Thieves and perverts are as low as a person can get! Hopefully it was just a joy ride and you get the sedan back in one piece.

Sorry to hear this bro. Makes my stomach turn.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

If this sedan doesn't make it's way back to you, would you be building another one?
89 LX SOHC ZC

Im hoping it was a joy ride but its looking more like a stake out a sacerity gard where my wife works tried to confront two guys in an Acura Integra but they took off in a hurry about the time my car disaperd. I had a kill switch installed and no gas in the tank I was going to put gas in it after my lunch date with my wife so they dident get far on the gas it had. Im not shure what im going to do yet Jon im trying to figure out how im going to get another car altogether things are really tight right now but posably. thank for all the support from everyone its appriciated.
Dolie ED3

Yeah,we are all ef sedan lovers and when your sedan is gone its like your missing a part of yourself!
Everyday we visit this forum because it,s our lifestyle this cool, funny car that,s make people put thier thumbs up when your driving by.I really hopes your car pops up somewhere these days!or start a new ef sedan project and do it all over again.when you need eudm parts in the future hit me up bro!and we start a search Smile
89ef2

thats sucks... had my car stolen from work once... worst feeling in the world... hope they will find it in one peice cause i know the felling
Towlie

Wow that is fuckin lame. I have a kill switch as well... makes me wonder =/
Dolie ED3

also put on a snap off steeringwheel Cool
89 LX SOHC ZC

I dont think anything would have stoped them short of getting cought by sombody.
89 LX SOHC ZC

She's comin home!! Shes missing some parts but for the most part shes usable. They took my wheels, coilovers, steering wheel, shift knob ,wink mirror, stereo, speakers, side markers, front lip, all four mudflaps, the filter from my intake,my entire mpfi swap and my tools. They left me my skunk 2 upper front control arms my rear disk brakes my lower rear tie bar and short shifter. I got the complete shell and motor and transmission. I have the stock parts so it shouldent take me long to get her back on the road I willtry to post pics later.
Dolie ED3

Ok!they found here back!took of some expensive parts.and how is the body no scratshes or dents or something?you have a base now to work on again! :)post some pix when she,s back.im happy for you bro!
EF Sedan Enthusiast

That is nice that you will be able to get it back in running condition.  Hopefully they didn't butcher the car while stealing those parts.  Glad to hear you're getting it back though.
89ef2

that's awesome... good luck on the rebuild
89 LX SOHC ZC

She's not pretty but she's easally fixable off to ecology to pick up the parts I dont have to get her back on her feet. They took all of the hardware to reinstall my stock struts and the front strut forks and thay broke my center console here are the pics I promissed.

Ive heard of suspension riding like a brick but this is ridiculous.lol[/img]
Proper282

I'm glad you got it back, bit that just pisses me off! Dirtbags swipe everything you worked hard to pay for. I hope they catch those fucks! Sad part of this is that they probably didn't steal them to sell. Most likely will end up on their f_ckin hooptie with a fart can exhaust and jdm stickers plastered all over.

Glad you have enough car to rebuild though... I have a blue console in my parts car. Not sure the shape it's in but I'll check for you in the morning. If it's in decent shape you can have it. Pm me with a parts list and i'll see what I can spare...
Dolie ED3

You got the car back, but damn they beat it up!
They found it back on the street?and was it in your erea?
Low life asses are they, that stole your car!
Good luck and succes with building up your sedan again!
First thing kill switch and snap off steeringwheel i guess.

i have this OMP.racing spare steering wheel, you can have it if you want.only have no 88-91 hub.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

At least the body, motor and trans seem to be straight.  Really sorry to see this.  If I was you, I'd be watching Craigslist and local car meets to see your stuff pop up.

I'm going to a yard today, let me know if I can pick anything up for you.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Yeah Jon they only took my air filter and my radiator cap from under the hood. I really appriciate all the kind comments. I went to Ecology today and picked up the strut forks and all the nuts and bolts to hopfully put my stock struts back in im hoping I still have my stock springs I dont remember what I did with them. Confused
Blue-Honda

from what model is the rear disk that you put on youre civic ?
89 LX SOHC ZC

The disk brakes are off of a 90-93 Da Integra with 4 door Da Integra e brake cables direct bolt on.
89 LX SOHC ZC

She still looks a little violated but shes back on the road. I guess its time start all over.

Proper282

Still sexy!
89 LX SOHC ZC

She'd look a lot sexyer if I dident have big holes in my fenders with nothing in them.lol
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Still, you have it and can build off a mint body.  It really makes me smile seeing it mobile again Very Happy
89 LX SOHC ZC

I smile a little more every day but im having a real hard time getting over the disapointment its going to take some time to get over it but yes I thank god for its return.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Ive been working on some things. I got a few goodies installed today

I reinstalled my side markers and then I installed these beauty rings. What do you guys think? I think it kinda gives it a hot rod feel.

Im not shure if im going to put a stereo back in so ive been puting this together im thinking I might put some guages in it.

MattyJ

thats where I am putting my gauges! its  good little spot!

mattyj
89 LX SOHC ZC

I agree.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

The beauty rings look good.  Paint that black and slap a few gauges in there.  You could always do a stealthy glove box install with a cd player.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Im starting to get some small things replaced as I can afford them.  I got me a new wink mirror. Very Happy

and I got this finished up it came out alright.
Bond

Nice work with the gauges. Looks good.
Sancho

That gauge cluster came out good. What was the material that you used?
Proper282

I'm diggin it too. If i could part with my radio that would be where I'd mount mine.

Good job on the placement too. They look pretty even
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks for the comments im happy with the way it turned out its made of sheet styrene and strip styrene from the hobby store I had laying from my model car escapaids.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Looking good.
Proper282

The beauty ring are bad ass too. I was wanting to do the same, but with a set of 15" steelies. But the 15's are getting harder to come by
89ef2

Car is looking nice.... Rebuilding always has a better outcome then before the several times I have had to do it
89 LX SOHC ZC

I was thinking about doing 15" steelies and beauty rings but I dont like the look as much as I thought I was going to I guess time will tell.  My first major replacement will be coilovers.  I did find a much straighter left front fender.

It has a small boo boo right here that I staightened out a little but once I put flaps back on you wont really be able to see it.

This is what I replaced.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Was that fender like that before?
89 LX SOHC ZC

Yes it was like that when I bought it unfortunatly.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Well progress is always good.
89 LX SOHC ZC

For shure!
89 LX SOHC ZC

I got these in the mail today my stock springs suck hard so for now im going to install these and at tax time ill make some decisions on what to do permanently.
90efLS

Its disgusting the way people can be. You bust your ass to not only make a living but also do something your passionate about and someone takes it like you owe then something. They get everything for nothing. Its more than bullshit. Its down right disgusting man. But I am happy you got her back. Lol it was like reading a book kind of thru the posts, hoping you would get the ef back. But, through all of this you will for sure appreciate her more and the work that goes into her. But man major kudos for keeping you head up through this and rebuilding. Thats love for sure. Cant wait to see whats next.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Nice dude, they should do just fine for the time being.  I plan on picking up a set of "hold me over sleeves" until the $$$ get's up for FnF II.

Figured I'd post this here first  Very Happy

Drumroll please, the log overdue addition to the EFSS is:

#270 89 LX SOHC ZC
89ef2

Well deserved...
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks Jon sorry for buggin.
Proper282

Wow! I never realized you weren't #'d yet lol!

Ues long over due, but very much deserved.....

I'm still rocking the ebay coilovers lol! They do fine for my 100mi daily treks.
89 LX SOHC ZC

I rocked a set of sleeves before I got my coilovers. I sold them to my homie down the street when I got my coilovers now im wishing I had kept them LOL.
89 LX SOHC ZC

I installed these yesterday there not in real good shape but there better than nothing.

89 LX SOHC ZC

I installed my sleeves today and found this when I pulled the left rear tire I dont really want to spend the money to replace it for temp use im going to run it for a little bit and see were things go.

This is how she's sitting right now.

EF Sedan Enthusiast

Nice  Twisted Evil
89 LX SOHC ZC

Well its no hot jdm piece but its a hole lot nicer than my stock wheel.

and this is to come shortly I hope LOL.

This is a crappy pic but I got some front flaps installed.
89ef2

Have the exact setup on my sedan but im rockin a wood wheel... worth every penny  to walk inside with my steering wheel if u ask me
89 LX SOHC ZC

I had the security system years ago I really wish I would have had it a couple of months ago.
89ef2

Yep... I had to learn the hard way too... You live and you learn... Wish it wasnt the hard way but what can you do... Love the rebuild
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Nice.  I need to get one too.
89 LX SOHC ZC

I dont have any real updates but i'vebeen trying too get my paint to shine again after being wiped down with WD40 when it was stolen its starting to look good and shiny.  Here is a pic I took with my phone yesterday.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Looking good.  Would look good with a DA lip.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Been lookin for a lip but no luck I guess i'll find one at some point.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Ive been looking for a lip for my sedan since it was taken when the car was stolen a few monts ago,  I went to Ecology in the rain last week and stumbled across a Da sedan with this one on it so im a little happier,

I did a disk brake swap using Da trailing arms and stock toe arms a while back and had noticed that I had a problem with toe out.  After adjusting the toe all the way in and it getting no better I decideded to swap the Da spindles to the ef trailing arms.  I had read some horror stories about this swap but I managed to get it done with out to much trouble and im much happier.

I changed the bushings in my ef trailing arms also.

There are 4 torks and one 24mm nut on each spindle that need to be removed.

after removing the torks and nuts from both spindles this is what you get.

dont do this lucky for me I was able to get this out withan impact gun of course it was the last bolt to come out.

after installing the Da spindle on the ef triling arm you get this.

And finaly the finished product.
89civicracer

Nice!  Shocked
EF Sedan Enthusiast

I like the lip and the rear disks are great.
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks guys im going to do the swap for a buddy as soon as he gets the rest of his parts.   We went to Pick A Part last Friday and got everything but the rotors and 4040 proportioning valve.  He is planning to buy new rotors and a larger master cylinder.

I have been having some trouble with injection relays and I got sick of working so hard to change them so I moved it out of its hiding place to under the dash.
89ef2

When I did my da rear brakes I had no problem... Just only used the arms... No toe problems or anything but the bushings are f#*cked... Still havent had the cash lately so have to deal with the noise but thats the next thing on the long list of maintenace... Never even thought of doing it the way u did but pulled it off nicely
89 LX SOHC ZC

Yeah im not shure what the deal was but I couldent get the toe anywhere near right so I just decided to do this swap and be done with it LOL. Very Happy
89 LX SOHC ZC

I was walking threw Ecology yesterday and stumbled across a pair of like new rear cross drilled and slotted rotors on a da sedan and had to have them.  I have always loved these rotors and what a steal for $31 bucks the only problem is now I need the fronts to match.

This is how I found them.

after I cleaned and painted the hats.

and installed

nothing big but thought id share it.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

That's awesome dude!
89 LX SOHC ZC

I picked up an old set of TSW EVO wheels a couple of days ago for $125 with usable tires.  They need some work but they are almost complete they're only missing two of the TSW cener logo caps and clips and the cap nut locks.  I need to clean them up fix some curb rash and repaint them.  Im shure not everybody will like them but ive wanted a set of them since about 1995.  Its going to be a while before I install them but this is how they looked when I picked them up.

89 LX SOHC ZC

Tryed her new shoes on today I cant wait to fix the curb rash and get them painted so I can install them permenently.

Started cleaning parts so I can get them painted and the nuts that hold the lug nut covers were in sad shap.

before

after
Robb

Love those TSW Wheels ! They are 'Period Correct' too.  Smile
89 LX SOHC ZC

Thanks man me too always have.
Sancho

I've never seen that model of tsw's before but I freakin love em!
4dred6

love the wheels.
89civicracer

Nice wheels... nice slotted brake find also!  Laughing
