1991 ex sedan build

How it was when i got it

How it is after i switched the wheels from my old car.next course of Acton is to get the crappy paint off the rims.
4dred6

4x4  Very Happy . cant wait to see it lowered  Twisted Evil
incendiaryrain

Haha tell me about it. Its in the works don't worry
incendiaryrain

What is the general consensus on painted rims? I am going to strip my wheels soon but i haven't decided if i am going to re paint them. If i do it would be black or white.
4dred6

White
FlatTireRacer

I'm a fan of white rims! Maybe a pain to  keep clean but I just can't get over how crisp white rims look!
incendiaryrain

I was thinking white rims until i saw this car

That is just sexy...
4dred6

sexy  Cool
HondaJunkie

Wow those look really good bronze do it up.

I think that car makes that colour look good, but i reckon white or stripped back to bare metal would suit your car better.
EF4lyf3

Sexy X3! shes a beauty. My take on it is you gotta feel it. Brainstorm as to what color you think would be the best. think of what someone doesnt have. Idk man just use your genius lol. I have faith your whip will be even sicker than that one. Quarantine, Stuck in a hospital bed SICK lol
incendiaryrain

thanks for the responses guys! ill have to do some testing on the wheel color. i guess we'll try bare metal first then whatever else if i dont like it. like i said im working on getting it lowered. im all for riding looowwwwww lol
incendiaryrain

Just about finished one wheel and about half way done on the next. Using all that elbow grease is hard work!
~Sp33~

Look good IMO!
zacattack

You should polish them! Nice car too. Looks like a solid platform.
4dred6

polished or white. I don't think the bronze will do it
incendiaryrain

im leaning towards polished as well.

i pretty much finished both on that side. i think im going to rock black on the left and polished on the right lol. for a few days anyway.
incendiaryrain

I'm really starting to like the wheels bare metal. I'll have to polish them more though
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Polished for sure.
4dred6

Polish and low  Cool
89 LX SOHC ZC

I say polish aswell.
EF4lyf3

Yea polish looks pretty good! Keep it up... I admire the enthusiasm
incendiaryrain

polish it is! and thank you. i do love my hondas lol
EF4lyf3

Sweet!!
zacattack

Awesome! There gonna look killer.  Wink
incendiaryrain

Ahhhhh so much better...
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Definitely
EF4lyf3

Shes looking sexier and sexier everyday man keep it up! Whats next on the build agenda???
incendiaryrain

Probably a lip and installing my replacement sunroof. The old one leaks like crazy
EF4lyf3

Sounds goos man. I would def get that lip and drop it about 2 more inches  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy. i think she will be happy lower to the ground haha but again this is YOUR vehicle and one can not tell the owner what to do with his property  Cool
incendiaryrain

I wouldn't mind lowering it more. I wanted to close the gap at least. If i lower it more i would want to get some extended top hats though. It has kyb's with skunk 2 springs and ground control sleeves on it now. I don't think i can go much lower on them
4dred6

Saw the pic last night and didn't even notice that you lowered it  Very Happy

Hmm that's funny since i didn't post it until today lol
Geo-93

Looks good man it would look nice a little lower too
4dred6

True I thought it was the other one
incendiaryrain

Thanks guys! I like it. I wouldn't mind it a little lower. I need to see if i have Any
more room on the adjusters
89 LX SOHC ZC

Looks much better man.
incendiaryrain

Put my new sunroof on last night. Someone had put an aftermarket on and it was all leaky. Cutting into my roof to trim it was the scariest thing ever lol.
4dred6

looks good bro. i want sunroof.  Sad
incendiaryrain

It was pretty cheap. Bought mine from thesunroofdoctor.com for like 170. Its a manual pop up kind though
4dred6

maybe later down the road.  for now i just want to see some paint and drive it  Very Happy  but it looks good. i wouldn't mind having a pop up.
incendiaryrain

Yeah the only reason i have one is because it came with one. Its nice and all but there is something about cutting a hole in a perfectly good roof...
89 LX SOHC ZC

Looks good man.
~Sp33~

Looks like its sitting at a nice height at the moment.
incendiaryrain

Its pretty good. if i get some extended top hats made i might go down another inch. I should probably check to see where I'm leaking oil from though. I keep having to add oil..
4dred6

Rear main seal, cam seal oil pump seal, that's probably that hardest to tell if they're leaking. And other places well the vc gasket, oil pan gasket, or even the distributor o ring.
EF4lyf3

Lookin good man! keep it up
incendiaryrain

Thanks! Hopefully I'll have time to go junkyard diving for a lip this weekend
EF4lyf3

I too must do the same. I took my old VW lip off cuz i broke one side of it on a rouge speedbump  Crying or Very sad
incendiaryrain

On a side note... Do you guys have rear speakers in your cars? If so.. Where? There are holes for speakers but those tension bars for the trunk get in the way.
incendiaryrain

well as you can see i havent had time to work on my car much... although i have been thinking about doing an engine swap of some kind since rebuilding seems so cost prohibitive. what is the best swap for an ex sedan?  i feel like the engine is dying because it leaks oil everywhere and puffs a big cloud out the back almost every time i hit the gas. its either swap it or sell it and get a 2008 civic si... hmmm... but debt sucks.
89CivicSi

rebuild, you don't wanna hear god's thoughts on sellin ef's!! Evil or Very Mad
but looks good I like  Very Happy , now more lower, but as said ur car, cant tell u what to do to it,psh LOWER IT!!!!! lol JK
incendiaryrain

Thanks man. Yeah i wouldn't mind lowering it more but before i do that i need to get some extended top hats so I'm not riding on the bump stops 24/7. Any thoughts on what i should swap in?
89CivicSi

d16a6 if ur not gonna rebuild the stock motor. an ya top hats are great from what I hear I was lucky to come across new set of suspension on a civic in a parts yard that will be goin on tomorrow. an if you swap out motor, do wire tuck at same time. if needed I found awesome write up for it with great detail an tonssss of pics.
FlatTireRacer

89CivicSi, if it's an unmolested EX then a D16A6 should be sitting in it already. I will say this however, incendiaryrain if you do get a 'new' motor lemme know what you do with the A6 that's in it now. I'm trying to get some stock built up on these 'Old School" SOHC motors so I can start rebuilding these puppies.
89CivicSi

My bad totally disregarded the ex Sad but just get a new one, or a z6 head an y8 mani
incendiaryrain

Yeah it's all stock with a d16a6. How does that work with swapping in a d series? Should i just get a new a6? Or upgrade to a y8? Or an ls engine. That way i would have a better platform should i want to upgrade in the future like with a vtec head or a turbo. So many possibilities...
89CivicSi

anything beside a a6 will need wiring jumpers, and need for u to we wire a few plugs and what not, the y8 is obd2, so that's a pain and no need for the whole y8 engine either u have the block just rebuild, and replace bearings and ring if the walls and deck are fine.
incendiaryrain

True. I would rather just swap out the whole engine. The last time i messed with the inside of the engine it ended badly lol
89CivicSi

you still gotta open it up anyways, always wanna cheack bearing clearances and how they are hell I do it on every block I look at. u don't wanna buy a block with a nice gouge in the crank would ya
EF4lyf3

Do you have positive camber in the front man? is that jus the way the picture looks?
89CivicSi

which pic??
89CivicSi

need to get alignment checked, n upper and lower ball joints man. in some pics its fine an others u got pos camber which leads me to believe u got a issue
EF4lyf3

Alignment, Check camber kit if you have on and check upper ball joint. also your steering rod/ radius rod.
incendiaryrain

Pretty sure it's the picture cause it's negative if anything. I probably need new ball joints though
EF4lyf3

lol just saw you put all that man hahah my bad
incendiaryrain

Yeah that's just picture. Thanks for the concern though. I'll take a better one
89CivicSi

OP get a pic of wheels straight on a flat ground from the front of the car, meaning we wanna see tires from front under bumper, cuz ur wheel is straight in that pic, and theres no way a pic would make it that pos, maybe adds 10-15lbs but never camber lol cuz ur car isn't low enough to really even have that much neg either
EF4lyf3

Please do this^^
89CivicSi

we not tryin to be mean just don't wanna see a ef get ruined cuz a wheel flew off ya know here is a lil help
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
EF4lyf3

Shes still super clean though!
89CivicSi

hell ya she is, il trade you interior Wink
incendiaryrain

Lol i appreciate it guys
89CivicSi

no problem, but please check all ball joints upper and lower, cuz in some pics looks like u have bad joint somewhere. just jack it up and look for anything that seems loose, I ended up replacing all mine cuz 1 ball joint
incendiaryrain

Will do thanks
89CivicSi

no problem Smile
incendiaryrain

Used some more paint stripper on the wheels finally.
89CivicSi

very nice

so what would be the best option engine wise? buy a low miles zc from hmotors? or rebuild my a6? the only problem with rebuilding mine is i dont know enough about motors to do it myself so i would probably have to pay out the @$$ for a shop to do it... thoughts?
89CivicSi

buy a helms or Haynes, and you have us!! iv already rebuilt that motor and can help u on ur way of not bein a engine virgin anymore  Twisted Evil its really not as hard as ur makin it out to be
FlatTireRacer

I've rebuilt several of those motors. Just rebuilt mine in my car (review pics in thread for build up). It's a very easy motor to build. Just dig around and find a nice machine shop. Building a motor is just like painting a car. 90% of the finished product depends on the prep work.
incendiaryrain

okay guys i'll take your word for it. i would like to rebuild mine just so i know its good. and to know how.
