(pics here are from seller in New Jersey)

Grandma actually sold it to her grandson 4 years ago with 28,000 miles, so he tells me. I guess he scraped it...  Laughing
Either way, the underbody will get a nice fresh coat of undercoating, and oilspray to prevent rust !
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Amazing!  Can't wait to see your build thread.
~Sp33~

Looking forward to seeing you work your magic.
Robb

Well I came home last night at 4:30pm.... had to drive a RWD pickup
and trailer through snowstorms & whiteouts south of Lake Erie and big 18
wheelers trucks ! SCARY ! Thise drivers have some courage I tell ya !haha
Took me 14 hours driving...
The canadian customs idiots gave me a bit of a hard time because
they said that U.S. customs didnt stamp the title to clear it out of the
country.. I told them this is not needed.. the lady had no idea about rules
and regulations for importing cars from U.S,- she had to always ask her co
worker what to do.. LoL..

The car is in mint condition body wise..! The white markes you saw in pics
is actually a poor waxing job... not scratches.. the car is scratch free
pretty much and no stone chips in front either !
The car is at my mechanics shop now. He took a good look at it. It needs
some mechanical work, timing belt, water pump, new distributor (makes noise
as bearing are toast), lower front ball joints, muffler and all new fluids.
It has brand new alternator, alt belt, A/C belt, Power steering belt, 1 year
old battery. and new front tires.. all electronics work too - power locks,
power mirrors, power windows etc
It needs a good cleaning.. dont think it has been cleaned by that 93 year
old grandmother...LoL
As far as rust, its super clean ! a few scrapes underbody that will get
coated with rustoleum undercoating.

Glad to hear you got it home.  Can't wait to see more pix!  After the maintenance, what are the first mods you're going to do?

Would you like me to move this to the build section?

Im keeping the car stock for now.. gonna be my winter car.
I am however installing an Integra GSR muffler on it, if you consider that a mod..  Laughing

Glad to hear you got her home and glad to hear shes mint. Cant wait to see more pics.

Just an update:

Picked up the car from my mechanics shop.
I spent a bit of money for maintenance to make perfect.  Smile

- New OEM timing belt + water pump.
- New OEM thermostat
- Valve clearance adjustment
- New OEM valve cover gasket set
- New aftermarket distributor (bearings were toast inside) - Paid $231+ tax dealer wanted $479 + tax
- check engine light was on when I bought it - code 19 -
http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl167i.htm
ended up being a bad ECU, probably caused by a short from the bad lock up control tranny solenoid - replaced ECU with used unit for $80 and OEM soilenoid for $110 (my cost from dealer)
- Replaced tranny fluid with OEM stuff
- Replaced engine oil with 5w30 Amsoil and Napa gold filter
- Full coolant flush including block, replaced with OEM Honda coolant
- 4 new NGK Platinum plugs
- New OEM fuel filter
- New OEM Air filter
- New OEM PCV valve
- Adjusted ignition timing
- Installed new OEM GSR Muffler - painted the muffler with High heat flat black paint, added my OEM Si tips
- Brand new aftermarket lower ball joints
- Brand new OEM Honda front brake pads
- safety + emission test

I did all this for  ~ $1000
Also, days before I bought the car, the previous owner installed a new alternator & Belt, A/C belt, and power steering belt because it snapped on him days before I bought it.
Smile

I will have some pics of it once it gets detailed next week.
The detailer Im using is a master.

Good stuff!!!

WOW

Lucky dog  Wink
89 LX SOHC ZC

Nice.
Robb

I took some pics of my 1992 GSR muffler installed on my 1988 LX sedan. All I had to do was relocate the hangers. I also put 2 coats of high heat spray flat black paint on it for extra corossian protection.

I'm going to change out the Si tips for GSR tips.
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Very nice!
psychoblue23

What a great idea on the exhaust! I may totally steal that idea from you Robb!

Great car btw!

And I did see that center console today on HT... What a beaut.. but out of my price range!
Robb

Thanks.

My civic is getting some cosmetic work done as we speak.
I sprayed the wiper arms and hood cowl plastic with SEM trim paint.
This stuff is fantastic. It leaves a nice factory flat black finish !
I also replaced the hood cowl weatherstrip.

Unfortunately cant do much in winter cuz I dont have nice Cali weather where I live.  Laughing
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Freshing up the trim and moldings makes a huge difference!
Bond

Thats a great idea to spray paint it. I think I'm going to try this. Any idea if other trim products will work with good results? I have some duplicolor trim stuff but it did a poor job and peeled quickly.

If you don't mind post up where you bought the paint. I'm also from Canada so if it's a major store I might be in luck Smile

Here's a write up for the same thing using a CRX Si muffler.  No relocating hangers required.

http://efcivicsedan.myfreeforum.org/about3093.html

Cool car.  Shoulda checked the junk yards for a new ECU, probably could have got it for free with a five finger discount or at least saved $50.00
Robb

^^ Cool.

Well, today I sent the civic out for some extreme detailing.
This detailer is one of the best !
Im getting the engine bay, paint, interior and trunk all done.  Cool

Here's some of his work. Pretty impressive.

Found it from someone in Latvia, of all places...LoL

Supposedly, the sedan, hatch and wagon consoles are all different too.
Bond

Sedan and hatch are the same. The wagon is the only one thats different. Nice find either way.
Robb

My grey EDM console arrived... I found it from someone in Latvia of all places.
Super rare to find one in grey ! Most of these came in graphite black.

When weather warms up.. still a few small things I gotta change inside the engine bay.  Very Happy
Robb

Since I own 3 EF's, I ordered 4 timing cover labels to have as spares. Honda only has a very limited supply.

mp_89dx

You are so freaking lucky to find one this clean.
Robb

Some updates:
- Installed middle optional console
- Installed footrest
- painted rear bumper trim

EF Sedan Enthusiast

Love what you're doing.  It's getting to that show room perfect feelv Very Happy
Robb

Some more OEM goodies I ordered from Honda arrived today.

- Left Taillight lense (mine had a small crack in it)

- Trunk weatherstrip, taillight gasket

- Hood Protector moulding (USDM 88-89 4 door civics never came with them)
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Good stuff you have there!
Robb

Installed the hood protector.. Kind of a Pain in the butt to remove the old clips from the weatherstrip and reinstall them back in with the protector molding !!  Confused

Robb

Installed new tail light lense.

EF Sedan Enthusiast

mmm mmm delicious  Very Happy
maddrides

This car looks great Very Happy  , I too have an 88 LX that am restoring here in Jamaica.
Robb

Well today was a good day to get some new pics of the car before I put it
away for storage until next winter.
Enjoy Smile

EF Sedan Enthusiast

Your winter beater is nicer than most of our sedans.
Robb

Tough to find nice unmolested/original sedans ! I guess I was lucky.
~Sp33~

Look forward to seeing it again next year.
Robb

Small update. Newly powdercoated valve cover Smile

Robb

Update:

Well had some time to go get some engine bay shots, since teh car is in storage. Also started it up for a bit as well.
Newly powdercoated valve cover installed. Smile
Engine bay still needs some cleaning and refreshing as well !!

Swung a deal on these dark grey BNIB sedan mats. I'll be getting them after New Years. Smile

zacattack wrote:

Ya, but I didnt buy them from that seller.
I partially traded a BNIB civic lower console for them + cash.

Sounds like a good deal to me.  Laughing

They wont be used any time soon.
All my BNIB mats are stored away for future use.
If they were used, Id put them in.
Right now Im using aftermerket ef style mats.
They fit perfect too.
EF4lyf3

This EF is SEX... Love what you are doing to her and keeping her all NACH-OO-rAL lol Very Happy  keep it up man. A beautiful EF like that will never be found from the original owner out here!
Joseph Lee

May I ask how much you bought this car for? I'm looking at one right now and it has 102,XXX miles, but it's selling for $3850, and I think that's a bit overpriced.
EF4lyf3

Joseph!!!! what up man im anthony from facebook lol. You will get all the help you need in this forum. Head over to INTRO in the forum and introfduce yourself man

I think I paid $2800.. But it is mint, with low miles, original paint and A/C works cold too !
I havent seen any ef sedans in better shape with lower miles in North America than mine. They are tough to find, even more than CRX's since sedans have been used primarily as daily drivers !

The one I found is pretty clean, but it has painted hubcaps and door moldings, but  I still don't think it's worth that much:

Robb

The blue and be taken out and put back to stock !
Good thing is that it is 5 speed and has original mats !
Get it.  Smile

That's what I was thinking lol, he said he would throw in a yakima rack and  box attachment for an extra $25 Btw, your car was what inspired me to look for a clean one to buy lol. At first I was thinking about buying a messed up one for $1000 and fix it up, but I just don't have the skill to do that lol.
jmanwantsboost

That shift knob is awesome.  What a clean ride.
Robb

Got the missing trunk liner in today (sunday). unusual for canada post to deliver sundays ! Thanks to a hondatech member 'skidmarkroyalty' for this. Smile

see pics

EF Sedan Enthusiast

Awesome you finally found it  Twisted Evil
89 LX SOHC ZC

Sweet.
Robb

Installed rear trunk liner and new weatherstrip.
1988-1989 civic sedan (all models) and 1990-1991 DX models never came with the carpet liner.
The most difficult part was lining up the holes and clips then drilling out the metal.
The plastic pieces are a bit scuffed / scratched but can be fixed.

note: The little blue dot has to line up with the trunk hatch to install properly.

EF Sedan Enthusiast

Looking good dude.
Robb

Thanks.
I gotta see if I can find some non scratched rear tail light covers and redo the middle plastic piece. That shit bothers me. lol
EF Sedan Enthusiast

Always something, right?
Robb

Got a new cigarette lighter. Old one was worn on front.

OLD

NEW
