| sorry for my newb question but my valves are tapping REALLY loud, so I brang it to a shop. The mechanic said that the valves are in good condition and space correctly? or something like that. He recommended that I just use a higher viscosity oil change and the tapping should go away. OH btw I have 191,xxx miles. any recommendations? comments? |

damm just by feeling the oil he knew what grade of oil whata pro. try it out just drain out the oil to 20/50 see if the sound goes away. i tried it out with my bro mightymax did a valve job (has cracked rockerarm) switched to 20/50 didnt tick aloud but gas mileage got little worse heavier thicker oil = more stress to motor compared to 5/30 oil. my d15 had no valve adjust for 100,000 miles, and lived little pass 300,xxx miles. until motor swap. _________________ WSC#2 |

In any tapping situation, thicker oil could help deaden the sound but it's still a tap. I had a car and i tried doing thicker oil and it ended up being a wrist pin which then made me rebuild the motor.
Tapping could be, valves, bearings, wrist pin, timing area ect
