|
|
Getting ready to get my upper strut bar, and ive haven't decided
which to buy, Ok lets say price range, i dont just want looks, but i want preformance Ok i will say the price range from $90.00 to $130.00 i am looking at. So Guys what brand do you suggest and why.I went on e-bay, but they have a lot of cheep stuff, i guess that's just for looks, then i talk to the guy at Andy's auto he told me most low end products are for looks when it comes to strut towers.Go for something around $80.00 to start off with and go up
from there in price, then you get something that will work like it is
set up to do and it will not break over the course of six months.
So help me out here??? In about the next two weeks i will be making a choice of where to buy one from and what brand name |

Get one that does not have heim links at the connection points, they are stronger. But if you DO get heim linked bars, get steel, not aluminum. Aluminum is not as strong as steel and will warp and bend.

X2 but lower case from me, The rear upper's end brackets were kinda flimsy, so i made some more braces. going to make new ends for them later on, but otherwise they are quite stiff for their weight. Skunk2, paswordJDM, and Mugen are definitely the best ones out there, and go 3 point for the front upper if you can. But for cost, i went megan. They are good enough they make a difference, but were cheep. There is room for improvement. _________________ 1988 VTEC AWD (in the build)

Ok megan states it's made from 6061 billet aluminum. It's 1.75 wide
and0.75 thick. So i thought you said stay away from aluminum? Now on megan web page there $69.95, and on Andy's Auto sport
there $46.78 each. Skunk2 uses the same:AL6061T6 and it sells for
$159.73 on Andy's Auto.Manchester Motorsport has Tenzo for $79.95 |

Im going to say that upper strut braces do nothing to handling, so buy a cheap one because it's going to be for show anyway. _________________

cool, i will just go on e-bay and get a $32.00 one, or something under $80.00 and save my money for the rear one and spend it there. Right now when i drive around 70mph, and i get into a curve i notice the rear trying to slide, First of all i know ive got used 14" tires for now why because it does not make since to spend a lot right now when latter i will be putting 15" rims and tires on it so i don't think i should buy new 14"tires for now??? Second i don't know???, MABEY I NEED TO WAIT ON THE FRONT BUMPER AND GET
A GOOD SWAY BAR??? Clips, i saw that bar they want $243.00 for it. |

Hmm, i think you should look into how a sway bar will actually effect your setup.
From what you've described, you should be looking into getting a larger lower front sway bar to increase understeer (Which is rarely the case in a front drive car with a decent sized wheel base).
Fitting a rear lower sway bar will increase the cars tendency to 'slide out' in corners. Buying an oversized sway bar will decrease the effectiveness of the independent suspension also.
Definitely look into the effects before purchasing anything. _________________

Ok i will look into getting a larger front sway bar. (what about
Progress sway bar)22mm $170.00 on Andy's auto sport do you think this will do. So a upper strut bar is for looks, and the bottom
sway bar will affect your suspension, so i need to get a front sway
bar and wait on the rear sway bar. and don't get the strut bar.
Ok as of today i won a Megan upper strut bar for $40.00 and $15.00 shipping so this will go on the top, i will research more on the lower, |

Definitely. Once you've purchased a set of rims that your happy with, get a tire with a low profile and descent width, it does wonders for your handling. _________________

Sp i think i am finally understanding what you mean, the wider low
profile tires will help. Thanks SP I will wait for the sway bar and strut
bar. After i get the rims, tires then i will see what happens? |

After tires, you should focus on your suspension. Then sway/strut bars. _________________

| 17's! but also there are many ....spreadsheets?...out there or sumthen to that nature that will let you plug in your car specs, then spit out the different wheel and tire sizes that can fit. the only one i have currently is for 4x4 off road but im sure there are some out there. dont go big wheels tho if you intend track. the tire sidewalls matter when it comes to fast turns....i reckon. |

The largest i would probably put on my sedan is a set of 15"s. Though 17"s are going to fill the gap better if your not planning on lowering the car any time soon. _________________

16's are also good. . depends on what you are going for. I would never do 17's especially if you lower the car and do not plan on having people in the back. I think you will need to roll your fenders also. . Don't get me wrong, people have done it. . . . but i personally do not like them. . they just look out of place on the car. . Stick to 15" or 16's. . that is my suggestion! |

They look ok, i'd keep them that grey colour though. Usually you want your wheels to contrast, not match. _________________

Back to the strut bar guys ive just got my strut bar put on,Well i bought that Megan strut bar off ebay, and it did not fit,But thanks to Maxspeed, TJ had a three way strut bar already in the shop, so we did a swap and it fit like hand in glove, because ive got that dual
intake on instead of the multi one, but latter were going to change that. But for now i am happy with the sway bar. next project will be
the front bumper Clips it looks like the one you posted for me. |
