THIS INFO TAKEN FROM HONDA-TECH MEMBER JDMEFSEDAN.
sup sedan owners...I just received my 90 EF Si rack today. Unfortunately, the auto-wrecker sent me a front x-member instead of the rear. All good, tho...i'll just have to wait. I did notice a couple things...
FYI...the racks are somewhat different. I do think the non-power steering rack will work in a power-steering rear x-member. The only noticeable difference is the diameter of the two racks. If you take a look at both of them, the power-steering (ps) rack has a thicker diameter. This is absolutely why the ps x-member and non-ps x-member are different; to accomodate a "thicker diameter" rack.
The racks are held onto the x-member by two bolts and a half circle "strap/bracket". This half circle bracket attaches onto the rear x-member via two bolts and a "rubber" gromet that wraps around the rack. The only problem I see with using a non-ps rack in a ps cross-member is that "strap/bracket" and rubber gromet on the ps x-member is larger than a non-ps. In other words, if you use a non ps rack with a ps "strap/bracket" and rubber gromet, there will be too much clearance between the "strap/bracket" and rubber gromet assembly AND the rack itself.
To remedy this problem, you can do one of two things.
1. using a ps x-member and non ps rack, use the following:
- a non-ps rack AND rubber gromet
- the "strap/bracket" and rubber gromet from your existing ps x-member
Basically use the non-ps rubber gromet AND the ps gromet to take up the clearance between the "strap/bracket" and rubber gromet(s).
2. using a non-ps x-member and non-ps rack, basically nothing new
Just assemble the non-ps rack to the non-ps x-member, and bolt it in.
I opted for the second option because I didn't want to run into any unforseen problems with the clearance issues down the road. Plus...the auto wrecker already charged me for it. Oh well..."Do it once, Do it right." That's my motto.
In a sense, ex voto was correct!!

The crossmembers ARE different. The CRX Si rear crossmember (that the rack attaches to, anyway) is different. But I'm told that the rack will bolt onto the sedan's crossmember anyway. I don't think that it works the other way around.
That's just what I was told from a very certified Honda mechanic. He said it was an easy swap with no problems. I was very specific in my questions... I swapped a ZC and the PS rarely works in them without a ZC hood, but my sedan swapped it in just fine.
If no one finds out, I'll be able to confirm in a couple of months. That's my next mod.

Here is a pic of the differences in the two racks.

i like the feel of manual steering better.. it just gives me much better road feel.. makes me feel more connected to the car.. it also frees up a little power... not much... but a little.. _________________ '99 Chevy Camaro Z28

| I fully agree with the above statement. I do not like p/s and I'll even go as far as to say I'm not the biggest fan of abs either. |

I had no belt on my first EF sedan, and i fixed the leak and hooked it up, then later took it off again, the power gain was better than any intake could ever get you, i'm all for no power steering, none of my cars have it.
